The 1978 Indy 500 Pace Car marked the first time a Corvette was chosen as the pace car for the Indy 500 and happened to be the 25th anniversary of the Corvette. This well-cared for Corvette is powered by an 350 CID small block V8 engine, backed by a GM TH350 3-speed automatic. Only 6,502 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car edition Corvettes were built, ensuring that they will continue to become harder to find as time goes on and more of them go by the wayside. The Pace Car edition's special black over silver paint scheme is highlighted by a red pin stripe just below the separation line between the black upper and silver lower and mimics the red accent line at the outer edges of each of the special slotted aluminum wheels. The Pace Car editions also got a special silver interior, which included seats that were originally designed for the upcoming 1979 model year Corvettes.
