It was a completely unique platform which shared literally no parts with other Porsches in production. Talk about a fun car to go cross-country in - even the relatively under-powered 1978 model, with its 219 HP 4. 4L V8, it could still cruise at well over 100mph in comfort, AND (from personal experience) remain nearly unnoticed by sharp-eyed speed enforcement personnel. Back when the 928 first came out, here in the USA, few except the automotive cognoscenti knew what it was, or what it could do, performance-wise.
