1981 was a year of first for the Corvette. Not only was this the first year for Corvettes to be produced at two factories but it was also the first year for the now historic Bowling Green plant. The STL plant cars were only available in solid colors while the new revolutionary bowling green plant had the capability to paint them two tone, a rather extravagant option for a production car in 1981. The 74 Corvette was the first year for all rubber bumpers all around. Gone were the now infamous chrome bumpers of the early C3's but the new heavily sloped rear was an instant success and a staggering 37000 Corvette's were sold that year. Although HP was down you could still get a fairly potent LS4 Big block putting out around 270 ponies but a ground pounding 380 FTLB turning the Corvette into a true tire shredder.
