The introduction of the Mustang was one of the most influential periods for the automotive industry. Ford had no intention of the Mustang becoming so popular and even today the Mustang remains one of Ford's most tried and true reputations. Officially debuting at the Worlds Fair on April 11th, 1964 the Mustang took the world by storm. Some small changes were added in 1966 to distinguish the 64 1/2 - 65 year from 66's, including a new grill design, side ornaments behind the doors, wheel covers, and gas cap. The grill of the 64-65 featured a honeycomb design with four metal bars extending out in all four directions from the pony emblem. 66' did away with these bars, while also introducing a slotted grill design.
