After barely surviving the 80's with overweight and underpowered cars Chevrolet was looking for a breath of fresh air in there supercar lineup and oh boy did they find it. It all started back in 86 when GM acquired Group Lotus and decided they wanted to build the fastest production car and it was to be based on the C4 vetted. What they came up with was a revolutionary, high powered, all aluminum, twin cam, V8 dubbed the LT5.
