We are excited to offer you this incredibly restored 1946 Indian Chief for sale at our Saint Louis Gateway Classic Cars Showroom.
BACKGROUND: The Indian Chief is a motorcycle that was built by the Hendee Manufacturing Company and the subsequent Indian Motocycle Company from 1922 to the end of the company's production in 1953. The Chief was Indian's "big twin", a larger, more powerful motorcycle than the more agile Scout used in competition and sport riding. When Indian resumed civilian production after World War II, they revived only the Chief line. Production of Indian motorcycles ended with the last Chief made in 1953. (Source: Wikipedia)
This 1946 Indian Chief Motorcycle was painted red with crash bars and extra running lights. Complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration completed in 2009 and has had less than five running miles since then. It has been converted to a 12-volt electronic alternator and a left-hand shifter. All the original parts are available to take the bike back to kick start and right hand shift. All sheet metal is original, red telltale speedometer, black powder-coated frame, DuPont painted tins. The handlebars are high-quality reproductions and all of the chrome on the bike has been replated. The starter kit is a Kiwi Indian electric. The Engine and transmission were completely rebuilt by a professional and the engine cases and head are polished. The tires are Avon. The consignor still has many of the original parts available for the buyer.
