For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette. This '57 is painted in a traditional Venetian Red with an Ivory cove and a Beige soft top with matching hard top. 1957 was a big year for the Corvette. Fuel Injection and an optional 4 speed were introduced. Engine options were becoming more popular and ranged from a standard 220 horse single carburetor all the up to a Fuel Injected 283 pumping out 283 horse power. In 1957, this was a staggering number. To be able to produce one horsepower per cubic inch was almost unheard of.

This fine example was built in early December of 1956. Original stamp pad on original engine was F1026FG. This decodes Flint Michigan, October 26th of 1956, Dual Quad Power Glide. Accompanied with the sale are copies of the original paperwork from dealer in Troy, NC to prove original stamp pad #s on original block. Present engine has correct early 1957 dual quad carburetors, correct intake manifold 3739653 and correct 997 dual quad heads which are cast dated J-24-6. Replacement rebuilt engine block 3731548, 5,000 - 10,000 miles since rebuild is cast dated J-18-6 and has been stamped F1026FG. Original paperwork from original dealer who first sold the Vette on 7-31-57 to original owner that proves car was originally Venetian Red. It also has correct rebuilt 1110891 dual point distributor, correct rebuilt wiper motor 5047984, correct rebuilt generator 1102043. It has a reproduction coil 1115091. Power is sent through a rebuilt 1962 Borg Warner T 10 4 speed transmission with a Hurst shifter. Out back is a set of 3.55"1 gears with posi-traction. The hardtop has plexiglass dated January 1959. All gauges work and has a rebuilt speedometer, Quartz clock and an aftermarket electronic tachometer. Rubber is near new with 500 miles on Coker radials and hubcaps are correct non-vented. The Corvette is with its 4th owner with history going back to the original purchase and has been with the same owner since 1990.
