Production continued until 1981, a Continental was not offered in 1981, but was available in 1982, and until 2002. Including the most recent generation, the Continental has spanned a total of ten generations. In 1978, the seventh generation of the Continental, a 400 CID V8 was the standard engine offered, while a 460 CID V8 could be ordered if desired. Fender skirts were no more in 1978, and half vinyl roofs were a common fixture on the Continental sedan.
