For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1972 Chevrolet Corvette convertible powered by an LS-5 454 Big Block. That's right, a Big Block convertible! This numbers matching Corvette is painted in a rare and eye catching War Bonnet Yellow and features a white soft top with a vinyl Saddle interior. Equipment consist of Power steering, Power brakes, chrome luggage rack, alarm system and Air Conditioning that has been retrofitted to use R-134A refrigerant. 1972 would be one of the last great years for the Corvette as it would be the last year for front and rear chrome bumpers. Power had dropped quite a bit by 1972 and was rated at 270 for the 454. The power rating system had also changed, measuring net power vs. gross power. This meant that power was rated with all engine accessories in place. Torque was still at an astounding 455 lbs./ft.! More than enough to burn off the rear tires and give a lot of cars a run for their money. The C3 Corvette (referring to the third generation) ran from 1968 all the way through 1982. However, collectors will agree that the bread and money is with 1968-1972 model years. Here's a very nicely restored example that has a low 66,207 original miles and still retains the original engine. Combine that with the optional equipment and you've got a recipe for a great collector car. This show winner is a great driving car with good power and reliability.
