As a result of the introduction of the HEI (High Energy Ignition) which included the Corvette's first no-points distributor in 1975 the use of distributor-driven tachometers ended. From 1975 on, Corvette tachometers were electronically driven. Another first in 1975 was the use of the kilometer-per-hour sub-face on the speedometer.
