Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a beautiful 1968 Ford Mustang GT 428 Cobra Jet. Ford changed the body style of the Mustang for the '67 year model. Some Mustang fans were critical that they made the car too large. Perhaps the main reason is although the car was made larger, there wasn't any large power increase. This changed for the better in '68 when the largest available engine was bumped up from a 390 CID V8 to a massive 428 CID Cobra Jet V8. That's right, seven liters. This is the first time big displacement had been crammed into the Mustang, and hot rodders loved it. This '68 is a true "R-code" which was born with a Cobra Jet from the factory. The original engine has be replaced with a 428 from a '69 Mach 1. The car has been fully restored including completely stripping and repainting the body in gorgeous Highland Green. The color and year will remind some of one of the most famous Mustangs: Bullitt. The 428 Cobra Jet is backed up by a 4 speed manual for the true driving enthusiast. In its current set up, it has an old school look with Keystone wheels, wide back tires, and track bars. From the factory this one was set up for stop light racing with 4.30 gears with Traction-Lok and a 4 speed. The 4.30s have been swapped out for some more street friendly 3.50 gears. This car runs and drives beautifully and could easily be driven to the next show, or taken on a long weekend. The interior is black vinyl in great shape as well. This 1968 Ford Mustang GT 428 Cobra Jet would be a welcome addition to any Mustang fan's collection.
