For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1966 Ford Mustang. This is a far cry from your typical Mustang. The build was completed in 2005 and it still looks amazing. The Ford running gear is long gone and in place is a Chrysler 440 big block backed up by a 727 Torq Flite automatic and back to an 8 3/4 narrowed rear end. The 440 is out of a 1967 Chrysler 300. The heads are closed chamber 516 heads to help gain some extra compression. The camshaft is a Comp Cams with .550 lift and the lifters are also Comp Cams. Feeding fuel to this big block is a set of 600 cfm Edelbrock carburetors on top of a tunnel ram intake manifold. The transmission was rebuilt using a manual valve body and a 10" torque converter. This has the look! It's red, has a tunnel ram intake sticking out of the hood and 31x18.50 rear tires. "Clear a path!" Inside is an original Mustang appearance with exception to the roll bar, tach and shifter. Standard Mustang vinyl bucket seats, stock dash and door panels. For a Mustang to be powered by such and engine and have such wide rear tires, you would certainly have to reinforce the frame. 2x3 inch frame rails were added along with the roll bar to add some structural integrity. The front suspension is a Mustang II with upper and lower control arms along with rack and pinion steering. The original shock towers were cut out for the fitment of the big 440. Not only was the Mustang II front suspension necessary, it also drastically improves the ride. The front end is also equipped with disc brakes. Out back are extra large 11" drum brakes. If you want to stand out amongst the crowd and go fast, you have found your weapon. For more information on this 1966 Ford Mustang, call 618-271-3000 or visit our St. Louis showroom.
