Gateway Classic cars of San Antonio/Austin is happy to introduce you to "Duece", this black 1968 Pontiac Firebird. The initial build of this 462 CID started back in 1985, when a student at The University of Alabama started off with a project & a dream. According to the write up in the March 2013 edition of High Performance Pontiac magazine, the initial builder started off with a junkyard find and spent the next couple decades creating what is seen today. The current owner states that it is a .60 over 1972 400 CID "YS" block fitted with a machined 455 crank and a set of Pontiac 7K3 heads that's topped with an Edelbrock Torker aluminum intake & a new Edelbrock 750cfm 4bbl carb that is supplying the juice. Laying the power down to the pavement is a 4-speed Muncie M-22 Rock Crusher transmission teamed up into the Pontiac limited-slip rear end & 3.23 gearing. This is what Pontiac performance was all about! The handling is done through a newer power steering box, Bilstein front shocks & some fresh bushings, and the wheels are a new set of chrome American Racing Special Edition 5-stars wrapped in Nitto rubber, completing the old school look with just the right stance of modern hot rods. There are many more features & touches, such as the Bluetooth audio system, that could be listed, but I think you get the idea of exactly what this Firebird is all about.
