Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is excited to be able to present this highly custom 1920 Ford Model T purpose-built racecar, built specifically to compete & actually DID compete in the 2022 "La Carrera Panamericana" road race! "The Mexican Road Race" was one of the most famous events in auto racing history, attracting the world's greatest drivers, but it was canceled in 1955 because of the cost and concerns about driver safety. In 1988 the event was revived as a special-stage rally on closed public highways for vintage cars and for thirty-five years has offered both professional and amateur drivers an opportunity to experience the thrills and challenges of the original Pan- Am. Today it is unique in the world-racing against the clock at high speed on closed public highways, mostly through the mountains of Mexico for a week. This 1920 Model T racer is powered by the iconic Ford "300" Inline 6 and is paired to a Ford "Toploader" 3-speed manual transmission. Those who have owned a Ford "300" know that it's legendary due to its durability, impressive low RPM torque outputs, simplicity of design, and longevity. Simply put, they're just hard to break. It's 300 cubic inches of raw, low-end torque that doesn't break even when you try, and it helped build much of this country by always performing at optimal levels in so many types of work trucks, and the 3.03 Toploader is widely known as a bullet proof, yet affordable, 3 speed manual transmission. In fact, GM even used this Ford designed Toploader for high horsepower applications in Pontiac and even in some Chevy's. The bottom line is the 3.03 top loader is likely the most durable 3 speed manual ever made. The rear end is a Ford 8.8" that is geared with some 2.73 gears that are turning some serious rubber. New Uniroyal 265/75/15's up front & some Toyo Open Country 285/75/16's out back, Wilwood 4 wheel disc braking, Offenhauser intake with a "FAST" programable fuel injection set up with an in-cab monitor, Jeg's Hi-Torque starter, Kirkey racing seats, a custom built cage & even a fire suppression system ensure that this "La Carrera Americana" racer is nothing but fun while you are out on the trails or blasting through desert roads. This is truly a piece of racing history and is being offered by the driver & his co-driver wife to fund their missionary church located deep in the Mexican hills.
