Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is super excited to offer this Black on Black 1970 Corvette Convertible! The C3 Corvette, built between 1968 and 1982, was the third generation of Chevrolet's venerable Corvette sports car. Occasionally seen as polarizing, the C3 garnered both praise and criticism for its radical design, purpose and driving dynamics. Zora Arkus-Duntov and Billy Mitchell, the second generation C2 Corvette designers, had just built the hugely successful, powerful, and respected Sting Ray Corvette. Even today, the Sting Ray is widely regarded as one of the most desirable Corvette models ever made. But in 1970, the late production start was the result of the UAW strike which impacted the total production numbers on the 1970 Corvette & a total of only 17,316 C3's were made for model year 1970 as a result (which was the lowest sales number for Corvette since 1962). The coupe sold just 10,668 units (62% of all cars produced), whereas the convertible sold only 6,648 units (38% of all cars produced), ever increasing the collectability of these 1970 models. Powered by a strong running Chevrolet 350 CID V8 (Casting# 3970010) and a 4-speed manual transmission, this C3 is ready to hit the road. An Edelbrock aluminum intake, an Edelbrock 600CFM electric choke carb, oversized aluminum radiator, aftermarket distributor & wires and a cold blowing A/C system are just a few of the goodies under the hood. Newer control arms & bushings up front, custom dual exhaust, a nice canvas top & a wicked "Shark Bite" rear coil-over suspension upgrade helps with the rear stability & keeps its butt where it should be! There are not too many cars that scream "Drive Me!" quite like a steel bumper Corvette, but a Black-on-Black 1970 convertible has to be up at the top of that list.
