Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is happy to be able to present this 1968 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. It was in 1948 that Wilhelm Karmann first bought a VW Beetle sedan and converted it into a four-seated convertible, and after successfully presenting it at VW in Wolfsburg, the Beetle Cabriolet began production since 1949 by Karmann. Over the years, little changed, but the Volkswagen Beetle received a major facelift in 1968, with vertical sealed beam headlights, bigger and higher bumpers, the taillights grew larger with reverse lights, push-button door handles were introduced, and the fuel filler cap was finally moved to the fender from under the hood. Keeping the iconic look, but making those subtle changes, is what has kept the Bugs as the economic, free-spirited darlings that we have come to know! This example comes to us from the same owners who have enjoyed this VW for over the last 40 years, and also believe that they are only the 2nd owners! This example is equipped with the "H5"-coded 1500cc 4-cylinder engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in Yukon yellow with the white soft convertible top & saddle colored vinyl interior, this 1968 VW Bug is definitely a throw back to an era long gone!
