Gateway Classic Cars of Philadelphia is presenting a 1966 Ford Mustang Mustero. Don't rub your eyes, believe them. If you are a Mustang enthusiast, you may have heard of these before but have probably never seen one in the steel. This Mustang conversion was the brainchild of Beverly Hills Ford and was given the blessing of Ford motor company. Only 50 of these cars were made, probably because of the $6,500 additional cost bringing the Mustero up to approximately $9,000 compared to its under $3,000 Coupe counterpart. It is believed that only 10 of the cars were sold to US customers with the balance going overseas where converting cars to pickups was popular. This example has been completely restored with modest upgrades. It is numbers matching with a complete rebuild. An Edelbrock carb and intake, ceramic headers and roller rockers, an aluminum radiator and an engine dress up kit make for a great engine compartment. Disc brakes were also added to improve drivability. The original steel bed plates and bed rails along with the original tonneau turnbuckles have been retained in the restoration process. The color is also the original and the interior is black with upgraded seats and Air conditioning as notable additions. This Mustero has won numerous awards including the grand National Gold Award and was the celebrity pick at the Ford Nationals at Carlisle.
