For sale in our Orlando Showroom is the robust 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1. It all started in 1984 as General Motors vice president Lloyd Reuss, set out to develop the most agile and powerful domestic car that Detroit had ever seen. Enter the ZR-1. At the route of this all black beast, the heart of a lion stirs, ready, waiting to be unleashed at the turn of its full power “valet key”. Where does this King of the Hill get its wicked power? No other than the Lotus designed, Mercury Marine manufactured, 5.7-liter all aluminum 32 valve-DOHC LT5 V-8. At that time, to develop an American multi-stage valve engine was an innovative gamble, but as the numbers report, GM hit the jackpot. Producing a lofty 375 horsepower, 370 ft-lbs torque, compression ratio of 11.0: 1, this C4 was playing with the likes of Italian made exotics, that is the Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach and Porsche Turbo. Not only were the top speeds something to marvel, the ZR-1 was breaking world records, such as the 24-hour and the 5,000 mile endurance test at 175.9 mph and 173.8 mph, respectively. How does one yield such great power? No other than clinching the leather capped shift knob that is linked to the ML9 six-speed aluminum-case computer aided gear selection (CAGS) manual transmission. Made famous by the Porsche 959, the ZR-1 is equipped with FX3 selective ride and handling controls, allowing its user to switch between three varying options that range from Touring to Performance. All of which are delivered via the heavy-duty Z51 independent short/long arm five-link suspension system. At the tail, you’ll find asphalt shredding 11 inch treads attached to 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, thus making this ZR-1's rear exclusively 3 inches wider and an authority in the high-speed hair-pin turns. Can you say Super ‘Vette! Options include: Black on Black color scheme ( just over 900 made) Dual removable targa roof panels, Delco-Bose CD/cassette, liquid crystal display instrument cluster, low tire pressure warning light, leather power seats, power windows, power locks, power heated mirrors, tilt wheel and cruise control. The 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 roared to the world that America was still King of the Hill in the horsepower wars, therefore staking its claim to be a deeply desired collector car in the not so distant future. Located only in our Orlando Showroom, this phenomenal 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 can be seen including HD pictures and video at www.GatewayClassicCars.com, or call 407-771-2000 for additional information.
