1972 Oldsmobile Toronado

Gateway Classic Cars a of Milwaukee is excited to present this luxurious 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado. Recognizable for its transaxle version of General Motors Turbo-Hydramatic transmission. Making the Toronado Americas first mass- produced front-wheel drive automobile along with her sisters the Cadillac Eldorado and Buick Riviera. Spanning a phenomenal production run from 1966-1992 over four generations. Manufactured as two-door personal luxury vehicle, the Oldsmobile Toronado was so well received it went on to become Motor Trends car of the year in 1966. The Toronado was one of the first modern front-wheel cars to have an automatic transmission which allowed the engine to sit over the front wheels, giving the car a notable 54/46 percent front/ rear weight distribution. Most noted was the complete flat floor adding even more space to what already one of the roomiest interiors available.

Our 1972 second generation Oldsmobile Toronado is a great survivor of what has become a staple in the automotive world “front wheel drive". Basically, an all original car (repainted decklid) both inside and out. The first- generation subframe model was replaced by a body-on frame platform, transitioning into a larger, heavily restyled, traditional looking luxury car. Front disk brakes became standard equipment in 1971. Under the hood is a 455 cubic inch Rocket V-8 attached to a 3-speed TH-425 automatic transmission. Painted in an elegant white with black cloth interior complimented by a matching white vinyl top. Options include air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, and an aftermarket Sony AM/ FM cassette radio. This 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado is an exceptionally clean example of a true American icon.
