This ’64 ½ Mustang Convertible is a great example of what a these 1st generation Mustangs should be. Open the hood and you'll see the original D code engine that was rated at 210 Horsepower from the factory. To verify this is indeed an early 289 V-8, the bell housing bolt pattern was checked out, and it is a 5 bolt pattern versus the later 6 bolt pattern that was used from 1965 to present day. Another indication that this is a 64 ½ Mustang is the presence of a generator with the hard to find dust cover. The engine has a nice smooth idle and starts easy even after sitting overnight. Lift off the clutch and you will feel the power of this American classic going through the factory 4 speed transmission. The White & black interior compliments the bright Poppy Red paint (trim Code 3) very well. There are other subtle things to indicate this is a true 64 ½ Ford Mustang, but the most glaring fact though, is the VIN 5F08D15089, which indicates it is the 51088th Mustang to roll off the line. There were over 120000 Mustangs built in 1964. In case you want to dress this car up a bit, all you need to do is remove the spinner hub caps and add a set of beauty rings to the factory steel mags. Options include, AM Radio, Convertible Power Top, Seat Belts, and Vinyl Interior. The only thing this American Classic needs is a new home.
