1970 Plymouth Road Runner

Up for sale in our Houston showroom is the famous 1970 Plymouth Road Runner. Plymouth’s goal in 1968 was to offer Detroit’s biggest bang for the buck and the Road Runner did just that priced at $2,900. It all started when Chrysler paid Warner Brothers $50,000 to put a popular cartoon bird on a less expensive Belvedere. Plymouths genius idea to capitalize on a cartoon’s popularity for the name of a muscle car made the car that much more desirable because the cartoon was followed by kids as well as adults. The famous character sound “Beep Beep” horn equipped on the Road Runner was engineered by switching the horn’s aluminum windings with copper. Along with the front and rear of the Road Runner being restyled in 1970, a performance hood called “Air Grabber” (the 1969 model included this option but it was not a moving flap) was an option and is very sought after today. This particular 1970 Road Runner started life as a 383 C.I.D V8 but has since been restored and replaced with the massive 440 C.I.D V8 that was from another 1970 Road Runner. The Hurst shifter is easily accessible to throw the car through all the gears of the 4 speed manual transmission. Everything on this gorgeous muscle car is period correct, which mean anything equipped on this car can be found on a 440 C.I.D V8 model Road Runner from the factory; everything except for the CD player that is. This Plymouth has been repainted to a factory Vitamin C Orange with a Black vinyl interior. This muscle car looks phenomenal and whoever the next owner is will be very happy with this purchase.
