Here in the Houston Showroom we have super gorgeous blue 1968 Chevelle – Malibu. The 1968 Chevelle got an all-new distinctly sculpted body with tapered front fenders and a rounded beltline. The car adopted a long-hood/short-deck profile with a high rear-quarter "kick-up". 1968 coupes and convertibles now rode a sporty 112-inch (2,800 mm) wheelbase. Hardtop coupes featured a semi-fastback, flowing roofline. More curves and a noticeably pinched mid-section made the restyled '68 Chevelle resemble a pop bottle. Flush-mounted glass replaced the tunneled window in back, and Malibu models received stylish hideaway windshield wipers. The new body style debuted for the 1968 model year and became so popular that it endured with updates for five years. Among these second-generation models, the small-displacement Chevelles are among the most popular GM A-bodies ever produced, which makes them a good choice if you're looking for a low-priced collector car endowed with the same DNA as its high-priced sibling. While prices of numbers-matching big-block Chevelles are out of reach of the common man, the less expensive Malibus and 300 trim models with small-block V-8s, and even straight-six engines, make a great, affordable alternative. The standard Chevelle braking system consisted of self-adjusting four-wheel drum brakes with 11-inch front discs available as an option. The front and rear brake drums measure 9.5 inches in diameter, and work quite well. The Chevelles of the late 1960s used a full-perimeter frame with a welded steel body bolted on top. GM engineers thought about rust prevention and offered the "flush and dry" rocker panels. This well-designed system flushed the rocker panels, which were highly susceptible to rust, with a constant flow of air to remove moisture. Special outlets drained at the rear of the rocker panels, allowing air and water to escape. The frames carried welded front and rear crossmembers. Hardtops and sedans rode on an open side-rail frame that resembled a C in its cross section, while convertibles had stiffer boxed side-rail frames to compensate for the lack of a steel roof.
