Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is excited to offer this superb example of a 1966 Land Rover Santana for sale. Fresh out of a an amazingly thorough restoration, this gorgeous green beauty is better than it ever was. If a part couldn't be refurbished to be "like new", it was replaced by a new one. Roughly 1700 man-hours of work were performed on this rig, and it shows. In fact, the list of parts that was replaced is so extensive that we don't have enough room to put it all in this advertisement: but if you want the list, contact the Houston Showroom at (832) 243-6220 or email us at "", and we'll send you the entire list in PDF format. For starters, this baby is sitting on a new galvanized frame. All the body panels and floors were stripped to bare metal. The metal was repainted on both sides for enhanced corrosion protection. All cappings, hood frame, windshield frame, sills, bulkhead vertical supports, hood-mounted spare tire hold down, underbody supports, and even the under-seat toolbox were all newly galvanized. All new floor hardware is new, as is all weatherstripping and glass.

The 2286 CC inline 4-cylinder gas engine was completely checked, prepped, rebuilt and updated to handle current unleaded gasoline (all new valvetrain components and hardened valves and seats): cylinders honed, block resurfaced, main bearing tunnel align honed, connecting rods honed, rings filed, crankshaft honed, new 2.5 cam, new main and rod bearings, new freeze plugs, rebuilt oil pump, new timing chain and timing chain vibration pad, new rear main seal, and new crank pulley were installed. The ignition was updated with a Pertronix electronic ignition, the generator was replaced with a more modern alternator setup, and a high-torque starter was added. The wiring harnesses (body, frame, and engine harnesses) are new cloth-wrapped sets. New Hella headlights, new parking lights, turn signals, and brake lights were installed; along with new horn, fuse box, battery and wire harnesses clips being added. The fuel tank is new, along with all bushings and mounting hardware, new fuel sending unit, new Facet electric fuel pump, fuel lines and filter, and gas tank to body seal.

The full-synchro transmission and transfer case was rebuilt by R. Whitehouse and Son, specialists in reconditioning Land Rover gearboxes. The flywheel was resurfaced and a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing were installed. A new front disc brake conversion was installed, giving this rugged truck even better stopping power. The rear drums were resurfaced, and all the brake lines and hoses are new, as well as is all brake hardware and pads and shoes. The brake booster and master cylinder are new, as are the rear wheel cylinders. There is a new steering gearbox, new tie rod ends/clamps/tie rods, and rebuilt steering relay. The suspension has been updated with new springs and shocks, along with all mounting and fastening hardware. A set of new welded 16" wheels (including the spare) are painted in a subtle limestone color and are shod with fresh 255/75R16 on/off-road radials, which provide a smoother ride than bias ply equivalents, along with tenacious off-road grip.

Unlike early Land Rovers, where you might spend as much time under the hood as you did inside the cab, this one will have you spending most of your time inside. Enjoy the cold A/C while you foray to the furthest reaches of wheeled travel, all while the wonderful aroma of the new "Elephant Hide" diamond stitched leather seating (and inside door panels) wafts into your nostrils. A full complement of seat belts keeps the passengers where they belong, rather than sprawled akimbo across each other, during the strenuous off-road adventures that you'll want to tackle. This legendary off-road truck will entice you into taking forays that most people (and vehicles) would shrink away from; but you'll be doing it in grand style in this superb vintage beast. Do not wait - this restored 1966 Land Rover will not last long!
