Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is ecstatic to introduce a remarkable classic that combines vintage charm with modern performance: the 1968 Chevrolet Camaro 496 Stroker Show Car. With its striking Yellow exterior and sleek black vinyl interior, this Camaro is a true head-turner, restored to showcase its legendary heritage and enhanced capabilities. Beneath its iconic hood lies a beastly 496 CID Stroker V8 engine that delivers a breathtaking 500 rear-wheel horsepower, ensuring an exhilarating driving experience. Paired with an M22 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, this Camaro offers the pure thrill of a hands-on, immersive connection with the road.
The restoration project spanned eight years, with attention given to every detail, down to the very shell of the vehicle. Most of the sheet metal work was performed by the owner, who also handled the complete disassembly and re-assembly using new parts for 99% of the car. The comprehensive electrical work, including a renewed fuse panel and custom fan and alternator wiring, ensures modern reliability. Alan Pound from A&R Restorations applied his skill to the finishing work and paint, achieving a glossy finish.
The body of the Camaro is a testament to craftsmanship and quality materials, featuring AMD, DII, and Dynacorn sheet metal components. Key replacements include the upper cowl panel, outer cowls, dash panel, and more, all seamlessly integrated for a pristine appearance. The exterior details are complemented by new grill and lamp lenses, front and rear glass, and applied trim. An SS decal adds a touch of classic authenticity.
Inside, the Camaro offers a harmonious blend of retro style and contemporary convenience. The interior features a Classic Headquarters full console, TMI door panels, and new ACC molded carpet, creating an inviting and comfortable cockpit. Modern conveniences like a Retrosound radio with Kenwood speakers, a Sun tachometer, and Summit water and oil gauges add to the driving pleasure.
The chassis has been refurbished, with the front subframe, control arms, and cross-member powder-coated for durability. With Moog front-end components and energy suspension bushings, the Camaro promises precise handling. The braking system, featuring front discs with Master Power and CPP components, assures confidence and control. US Mags 5 spoke wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires provide a strong grip and classic visual appeal.
Under the hood, the built 496 CID engine features high-performance components such as Edelbrock aluminum heads, an Edelbrock Air Gap manifold, and an 870 cfm Holley carburetor. With a Comp Cams roller cam and Hooker Comp Plus ceramic headers, the engine not only delivers power but also a captivating exhaust note. The drivetrain, featuring a 12-bolt rear end with new Eaton posi and Richmond gears, ensures that power is delivered efficiently to the road.
Commanding the wheel of a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro 496 Stroker Show Car like this is not just a tribute to a bygone era, but an embodiment of muscle car excellence, built for those who appreciate power, style, and performance. It stands ready to provide a driving experience that is both exhilarating and timeless.
