Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to present this sharp 1991 Camaro Z28 1LE / 305ci / 230HP / 5 Speed / 3:42, Only 289 1LE's produced in 1991 w/ 5 Speed Transmission. Finished in a Rare Ultra Blue Metallic (We've only seen 2 in this color to date, Most are Red, Black or White)
Hope your ready for this one, because this is a special car for many reasons! Third-generation Camaro prices are on the rise, and projected to continue that trend as finer examples with low miles are becoming increasingly difficult to find. This car began and lives most of its life in Texas. Purchased new at Young Chevrolet of Dallas, TX, this car is 1 of 3 purchased by that dealership in 1991, and the sister car to the 1991 SCCA champion car driven by Lou Gigliotti. The dealership converted 2 of the 3 cars to race that year in the SCCA championship series. This car was the 3rd, kept the car in their dealer inventory until 1992, and ended up selling the car on their lot to a lucky local civilian.
Today, with only 43,732 Miles, this Camaro has been lucky to be owned by car enthusiasts and collectors from day 1. The car has been stored in climate-controlled storage when not being driven to local car shows and events. The car overall is in pristine condition with only a few very minor blemishes.
Parts that have been replaced or upgraded on the car include SLP 3" Stainless exhaust, Hurst short-throw shifter, Fuel Injectors, Alternator underdrive pulley, Hypertech chip in PCM, and a few others (Ball Joints, K+N Air filters). The current owner has fitted a more modern set of black Riddler 17x8" wheels, an aftermarket NRG steering wheel, as well as a high end Audio system and front/rear dashcams. The factory grey interior shows to be nicely maintained and there is no accident history for this car on the Carfax or any other source of information we have obtained.
The car has an incredible amount of documentation that comes with it. Most passed along from the original owner, but I have also taken the time to add to this library by searching down previous owners, printing records from the internet, and collecting original GM documents and brochures from 1991 that give the new owner a complete package for reading, owning and displaying. The original build sheet, Bill of Lading from transpiration companies, as well as dealership checklist and copies of Invoice and window sticker, are also included. Original manual and spare plastic door key with the pouch are included. WI Title and copies of MA and TX titles included. Pictures from previous owners, ads, and internet forum discussions about this car will also be included.
The 1LE itself is a special car. Especially from the third generation where the "secret" ordering package was only first made available to the public to purchase in 1991. This car also has additional heritage, as it comes from the Young Chevrolet racing legacy, and was featured on pages 118-119 in the book "Camaro" by Anthony Young. A signed autographed copy of that book comes with the documentation and car.
The car itself also has the most sought after RPO options of any 1LE, in that it is a bare-bones Z28 car. No B4C package accompanying this car, as many 1LE's had during these years. Fog Light delete, A/C delete, AM/FM Radio, G92 performance axle, Dual-piston 11.86" front disc brakes, Aluminum driveshaft, Aluminum lightweight unused spare, Baffled gas tank, cloth interior, No power options anywhere, rear defrost delete, etc. This is a true 1LE example, made to be an SCCA race car. Here is some additional information and history on the 1LE:
If you're a fan of the Camaro Z-28's, then you probably know all about these cars.
Background: In the mid- to late-1980's, the SCCA Showroom Stock racing class and the Canadian Players Challenge series was being dominated by the Ford Mustang GT's. Following the axiom of "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday", Chevrolet decided in 1988 that it was time to wrestle the control of the SCCA Showroom Stock class and Players Challenge series away from Ford, and thus developed the Camaro Z-28 1LE. Initially, only racing teams or those individuals with a competition racing license could order a 1LE.
Ordering the RPO G80 Limited-slip rear axle & G92 performance axle with a Z-28 triggered the 1LE RPO. When G92 was ordered, it forced several other options including engine oil cooler, 4-wheel disc brakes, dual converter exhaust and P245/50ZR16 tires. A Camaro with G92 had to have either the 350ci (RPO B2L) engine with 4-speed automatic transmission or the 305ci (RPO LB9) with 5-speed manual. These Camaro's also had 145 mph speedometers and 5500 rpm redline tachs. If RPO G92 was ordered with air conditioning, the cars were built as street vehicles. If air conditioning was not ordered, Chevrolet equipped the cars for the race series. This car was ordered without air conditioning and includes:
(G92 Ordered Without A/C):
Aluminum driveshaft (JG1) (part # 10085375)
G80 Differential with limited slip with 3.42 posi rear
G92 Rear axle performance package
Big front brakes adapted from the Corvette
Larger (11.86 inch) front rotors (part # 18016035)
Larger front spindles (part #'s 18016737 / 18016738)
PBR front, dual-piston aluminum calipers (part #'s 10132827 / 10132828)
Special swinging fuel pickup in the gas tank and special 18 gallons baffled fuel tank for fuel pickup down to .5 gallon reserve to prevent fuel starvation in hard cornering
A steeper 0.74:1 gear ratio fifth gear
Stronger lower control arms (part # 10164151)
Special gas-filled shocks (1990-1992 cars)
Air conditioning delete (C41) (standard heater) (weight savings and better airflow to the radiator)
Fog lamp delete (to open up the air intake located behind)
T-Tops delete
Power accessories delete
Aluminum spare wheel with a smaller spare tire (N64)
Don't let this one get away because you likely won't see another one with this provenance, in such good condition anytime soon!! We're seeing similar mileage Z28's going for more, and they aren't even the coveted 1LE. This car will only continue to grow in value.
