Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to present this 1953 GMC Series 100-22: Hydramatic Truck. After WWII, Chevy came out of the box with completely redesigned vehicles. Drivers wanted a more comfortable ride, equipped with better visibility and more width to the cargo box. The Advanced-Design Half-Ton Pickup delivered on all those requests. Produced from 1947 through 1953, the Advanced-Design played a heavy role in Chevrolet's success during the first decade after the War. The ratio of sales between cars and trucks dropped to 2.5:1, and Chevy hit 2 million sales (the first for any American carmaker) in 1950.
Of all the Advanced-Design trucks produced, the 1953 GMC is coveted the most by collectors. Not only was 1953 the final year of this body style but it was also the first year of the rare and highly desirable Hydramatic automatic transmission. Although it shared many body panels with Chevrolet, the GMC was considered the heavier duty work truck due to its stronger drivetrain.
The 5-window (Deluxe Cab) offer here today was treated to a nice restoration. This GMC retains its Hydramatic transmission, the 235 CID Inline 6 engine runs great, shifts great, and is super easy to drive. Today this GMC stands tall and will make the next owner proud.
