For sale in our Chicago showroom is a very early production 1965 Ford Mustang commonly referred to as a 1964 1/2. This Wimbledon white beauty was born on March 19, 1964 just 9 short days after the very first Mustang debuted. The serial number of this car indicates it was the 2,041st Mustang ever built. Obviously the Mustang craze was one of the most noteworthy moments in automotive history and to think that this is one of the cars that started it is very special indeed.
Powering up this pony is the thrifty 170 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine mated with a 3-speed manual transmission with floor shifter. This car is designated as a "U" code and is completely void of options including either passenger or drivers side view mirror and features a radio delete plate on the dash. Apparently whoever bought this classic new was not concerned with all of the bells and whistles.
After having been discovered by the current owner this car underwent a full restoration that was completed in 2005. During the restoration process the goal was to preserve as much originality of the vehicle and use original parts rather than replacements. This vehicle is very early and thus features a manual choke that would normally be on a Ford Falcon and also a "Falcon Sprint" steering wheel. At the time of the restoration the original engine was rebuilt keeping the same bore and the transmission was rebuilt including new gears.
