1985 was the last year Mazda offered the 'tear-drop' RX-7 chassis that offered Rotary power for the first time in a Mazda product. This rare ownership opportunity is headlined by the revolutionary 'Wankel' Rotary engine. The Rotary engine defied the norm with its design by featuring a triangular rotor that revolves around the combustion chamber instead of traditional pistons, resulting in a much smaller displacement. On top of this, the engine was so light and compact that it could be mounted behind the front axle and meant the RX-7 could achieve a perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
