The 'A-code' optioned cars received a higher output 289CID V8 with a four-barrel carburetor that came from the factory. The A Code engine had dish-style pistons, giving it a higher compression ratio compared to the C-code flat top pistons. The result was a 25-horsepower difference where the A Code made 225 to the C Code's 200. The car was delivered new in Ivy Green Metallic with the Ivy Gold and White luxury interior option. The '66 GT had several noticeable features making it easily recognizable like the GT gas cap, trumpet exhaust, special GT stripes and Mustang lettering, GT badge, disc brakes, and GT fog light bar.
