Gateway Classic Cars of Tampa is proud to offer this stunning 1970 Dodge Challenger. This complete nut & bolt restoration took nearly 3 years and over 3000 man hours to complete and it shows. The build started with a running & driving car that from the outside appeared to be in pretty good condition. Once the car went through media blasting a different story was told. The body had some issues that were professionally repaired by cutting out the rusted areas and replacing them with welded in patch panels and it is evident that no corners were going to be cut on this restoration project. Wanting to stay with a rather original looking Challenger the body mods would consist of very subtle changes including the bumpers being modified to enhance their fit to the body, welding the bumper bolts on the back side of the painted bumpers and removing the stock vertical “nerf bars” that would be found on a stock Challenger. Little details are what make the car, and this one has all the right ones! The door handles were shaved, the outside mirrors were removed, and the side marker lights were removed in order to give the body a very clean and smooth appearance. When it was time to repaint the Challenger, all of the original “badges” were replaced with hand painted art applied over the color coat, but under the clear coat. The original 383 block was bored .030 over with the stroke increased by .87 giving this Mopar a total of 489 cubic inches. A matching set of Edelbrock heads, intake manifold, and 850 CFM carburetor were used as well as a complete rotating assembly (crankshaft, rods and pistons) from 440 Source. The huge Comp cam was used to operate the valve train with multiple pulls on the dyno in order to fine tune this blue printed engine, an astonishing 542 HP @ 5600 RPM was achieved. Factor in the insane 594 FT LBS of torque at 4300 RPM while running on regular old 93 pump gas and you have yourself one bad street machine. A transmission was the next decision to be made and as with the rest of the build it was nothing but the best. The Tremec TKO 5 speed was the natural choice and while mated to a Strange S60 rear end, including a custom length drive shaft (also from Strange Engineering),this thing is pretty much bullet proof. The 3.55 gear set gives you the ability to cruise down the highway and not be turning 3000 RPM. With all that go fast stuff under the hood the decision was made to go with 13” Baer brakes at all four wheels. Not only do These 13” drilled and slotted rotors bring this orange streak to a standstill while they also look great. The builders also color coded the calipers to match the Go Mango Orange Paint and the Top Banana Yellow stripe. The cockpit of this jet is very subtle with Black leather buckets accented with suede inners giving it an almost factory but updated look. The leather covered dash and console with carbon fiber pistol grip shifter definitely finish it off with the utmost class. Options on this multiple show winning 1970 Dodge Challenger include; AC, AM/FM/CD, Power Steering, Power Locks, Power Windows, Keyless Entry, Seat Belts, Anti Theft Systems, Leather and Suede Interiors, Radial Tires, Aluminum Wheels wrapped in Radial Tires.
