The first year of the 3rd generation Thunderbird brought in some drastic design changes during a time where a futuristic look was very popular. From the side you get a bullet-like appearance that was backed up by the only engine available for the model, a 390 cubic inch V8 rated at 300hp. A 3 speed automatic transmission was in place to make for an ergonomic driving experience. The 61 Thunderbird was used as the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500 that year and featured in the Inaugural Parade for President John F. Kennedy. The tuxedo color combo on this Thunderbird is a great contrast between two colors on opposite sides of the spectrum.
