Gateway Classic Cars of Scottsdale is pleased to present for sale, on consignment, this rich in history, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 drag car! In the late 80's under a prior owner the car was known as "In The Red" and was reportedly running mid 10's in the quarter mile thanks to a 427 cubic inch big block. The car had been sold to a gentleman in the UK who was trying desperately to match or beat the times that the car was running in the states. The car remained in England for years touring the country and competing in drag racing events with great success. In 1999 the car was sold to again where the transformation to it's current state began. Out went the 427 and in came a 502 cubic in block that was bored .30 over to become a 509 cubic inch screamer. Countless changes went into the car both visually and internally to result in the monster that it is today. The car comes with a time slip of it's greatest achievement of a 9.882 @ 137.69 mph. Additionally the car, affectionately known as the Alley Z Camaro, was featured on the cover of the October 2008 American Car World magazine, a copy of that publication will come with the car. There's also a UK magazine article of the car from March 1992 when it was known as "In The Red" that will come with the car. The 8.3 liter engine produces a stout 650 bhp and 600 ft lbs. of torque that pushes the car into sub 10's thanks to a little giggle juice. Combined with the extensive lengths people went through to put this car on a diet, there are comments about how it out accelerates Yamaha R1s and GSXR 1000's on the freeway. A small laundry list of specifications are as follows:
Body - Chevy F-Body, roof and lengthened rear quarters are original, fiberglass front end, doors and trunk. Paint is from a 1970's BMW color palate. Chassis is a near standard front clip with everything after that having been modified. Suspension has 90-10 adjustable front shocks and two way rear adjustable shocks with coilovers.
