Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is happy to be able to offer this highly sought after, 1 year only, 1972 Buick Skylark Sun Coupe. The Sun Coupe package itself was available only on the Skylark 350 Sport Coupe for 1972 & was produced only for this single model year, so the 1972 model is positioned smack-dab in the middle of a basically nondescript production run. It was born while GM was in the process of transitioning to the colonnade body style, slated to kick off the 1973 model year--a delay of one year, thanks to the UAW strike. Although there are no "official" production numbers, Buick historians estimate that only 1600-1800 were ever produced. The Sun Coupe's manual sunroof is the sliding, folding, accordion-like vinyl type (newly redone), which was available on the Skylarks, Skylark Customs and GS Sport Coupes. Surrounded by a newer color-matched vinyl top, the opening measures 42" x 50" inches when retracted, giving way to days of cruising in the sunshine! Powered by Buick's 350CID V8 engine, a 4-barrel carburetor and a quick shifting TH350 automatic, this is an often-overlooked collectible of the early 70's, while using the same powertrain that made GM famous for performance in some other vehicle models! This particular Sun Coupe has been enhanced a bit with a fully functional GS Ram Air hood & air cleaner, as well as GS badging & rear deck lid spoiler, all adding a little bit more of a muscular look to this stylish cruiser. This is an opportunity that doesn't come around very often, so if you have been looking for a truly unique piece of American Automotive history, this is one that you will almost never see.
