Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is proud to present this 1949 Ford F1 finished a Dark Cherry. The all new F1 was introduced in 1948 & was built as a larger truck with more cabin space than Fords previous models. The public was looking for a new type of truck that was still utilitarian but provided daily driver comforts. The F1 series was also, at the time, the first Ford pickup to use its own specific frame. This particular 1949 body is said to have been removed from the frame for an extensive custom build that included new interior and exterior touches. The drivetrain is the major highlight of this build. The factory 100hp 239CID V-8 has been removed and in its place is a rebuilt High Performance 302CID V-8 mated to a 4-Speed with overdrive AOD automatic transmission. This is definitely not your Grandpa’s old pickup! To help keep the power under control is power steering, 4-wheel disc brakes and QA1 adjustable coil overs in all 4 corners. The motor has been touched up with accessories that include a QuickFuel carburetor, polished valve covers and air cleaner, MSD ignition, long tube headers, Edelbrock Performer intake and a BeCool aluminum radiator with two electric fans help keep this motor cool. The wheels are U.S. Mags “Rambler”s in gun metal grey and are wrapped up nicely with a set of staggered Nitto tires, with some 245/48zr18s in the front and some meaty 315/35zr20s in the rear. The cabin features a bench seat trimmed in tan leather upholstery with matching door panels and headliner. Sheetmetal interior surfaces are nicely finished in the Dark Cherry body color, and amenities include power steering, power windows, push button start, electric door poppers, electric exhaust cut-outs, touchscreen Bluetooth Kenwood with Morel speakers and ice-cold Vintage Air make for an enjoyable cruiser. A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames the new instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm gauge and auxiliary gauges including coolant temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage and fuel level. This 1949 Ford F1 is what many enthusiasts dream about, a great driving vintage truck that’s a joy to experience and drive.
