Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is excited to present this example of a classic European racer, this unique 1962 Lotus Super 7 Racer! Beginning shortly after the close of WW II, Colin Chapman began building competition specials, soon progressing to selling cars available in kit form with the formation of Lotus Engineering in 1952. By 1957, Chapman and Lotus gained widespread acclaim with the release of the fiberglass bodied Elite, and especially with the elemental Seven roadster which was designed for the track and fast road work. While devastatingly effective, Lotus built only small quantities of the Seven in Series I and Series 2 iterations, plus the Super Seven through 1968, followed by continued production by Caterham to the present day. While many Caterhams and replica Sevens have been produced, actual Lotus-built examples like this example are quite rare and sought-after. Powered by the iconic high compression 1498cc 116E Cosworth engine with twin Weber carbs and the Cortina MK1 GT close ratio gearbox, this lightweight racer is ready for your favorite road course! This is an all-aluminum chassis #SB-1587 that is sitting on frame # B-1405 & underwent a completely documented restoration in 1980 (all files transfer to new owner). Since the initial restoration, there have been a number of upgrades & improvements, such as both the clutch & brake master cylinders, the wheel cylinders, fuel pump, water pump, a Petronics distributor and a gear reduction starter, to name a few. This is a vintage racer looking for a new course to run and will require someone knowledgeable in the classic European automobiles to fully enjoy what this 1962 Lotus Super 7 is all about!
