Gateway Classic Cars Milwaukee is excited to present this 1968 Volkswagen Baja Bug. The Volkswagen Beetle was manufactured from 1938-1973. Remaining basically unchanged as a two-door, rear engine economy car. The Beetle was the brainchild of Ferdinand Porsche and has been marketed as the” people’s car”. By the 1960’s engine size had increased to 1500cc with about 53hp. The 1968 Beetle offered new features including a large rear window, a semi-automatic transmission option, independent rear suspension, new bumpers, bigger rear brakes, and the front hood release moved to the glove box.
The 1960s Volkswagen Baja Bug came to life in southern California as an alternative to the dune buggy craze. Features included an open engine, big tires/wheels, fiberglass body kits, brush guards, and off -road roof lighting. The main body on the Baja is metal with a fiberglass hood, fenders, and rear flare panel. This 1968 Baja bug is painted in olive green with black fenders. The interior sports black vinyl seating with a complete gauge package. An aftermarket sunroof has been installed for those moon lit nights. This 1968 VW Baja Bug is powered by a 1500cc air cooled flat four engine attached to a four-speed manual transmission.
This 1968 Volkswagen Baja Bug is just aching for some off roading fun. Whether a day at the beach playing in sand or a little hill climbing this Bug is up to the challenge.
