Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is pleased to present this bright red 1961 Ford Falcon. This Falcon is powered by the inline 6-cylinder Mileage Maker engine that Ford designed to achieve a staggering 30mpg! The Falcon went on to be the basis for which the legendary Mustang was based. Construction was unibody and suspension was standard with coil springs in the front and lead springs in the rear. Brakes were drums all around and a the two-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission was an additional option from the 3-speed manual that was the base transmission. The market shift which spurred the development of the Falcon, and its competitors also precipitated the demise of several well-established marques in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Edsel, Nash, Hudson, DeSoto and Packard nameplates all disappeared from the marketplace. Robert McNamara, a Ford executive who became Ford's president briefly before being offered the job of U.S. Defense Secretary, is regarded by many as "the father of the Falcon". McNamara left Ford shortly after the Falcon's introduction, but his faith in the concept was vindicated with record sales; over half a million sold in the first year and over a million sold by the end of the second year. This little classic is sporting a bright red paint job that must be seen up close to appreciate, and the black accents are carried over into its interior, which is quite fresh. With nearly new red and black vinyl seating, red carpet, and black headliner, the interior is just getting broken in. Custom front and rear consoles have been added, to give the occupants their own cup holders. The front console features a color TFT screen in its dual-DIN configuration, and a separate CD player adds another layer of media sources. The custom trunk setup is color keyed to the rest of the car. This '61 Falcon rides on radial tires, and the wide white sidewalls add to the classic look. This little bird of prey is waiting for its next owner, so call or email our Houston showroom today!
