Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is pleased to present this vintage 1954 Chevrolet 3100 5-window pickup. The 1954 models were part of the tail end of Chevrolet's "Advance Design" pickup line, which debuted in 1947 and lasted into 1955, when Chevy switched to their newer "Task Force" truck line. The earlier years of the Advance Design trucks featured 216 CID inline 6-cylinder engines, which were notably not as reliable as the 235 CID I-6 engines that Chevrolet introduced in 1954: the Babbitt bearing/splash-lubrication design of the 216 just didn't have the longevity potential of the 235. This 5-window pickup is what most would refer to as a "survivor". While it has been well preserved for a nearly 70-year-old vehicle, it is pretty much unrestored. The white paint on the cab shows some patina, and there's more of that on the green painted body; but this is quite a solid truck. One won't find it loaded down with body filler putty or other attempts to pass it off as more than what it is...Although it does have a recent wood bed, the rest of it is "good 'ol fashioned classic Chevy truck". Powered by an inline 6-cylinder engine (it appears to be the 235), which is backed by the classic "three on the tree" column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission, this truck runs and drives nicely, just as it did when your grandpa had one. It does have a chrome valve cover to dress up the engine bay a bit, however. This 5-window pickup still retains its floor-mounted starter button, and it fires up readily. Inside the cab, the green vinyl bench seat is in good shape, as well as the headliner, door panels, and floor covering. The original AM radio comes with the truck, but it is not currently installed. It rides on a good set of classic wide white sidewall radial tires, which wrap the "steelies". Its chrome, including its chrome hubcaps, is all in surprisingly good condition for an unrestored vehicle. If you're looking for a truck that's ready to be used on your farm, or as a cool in-town driver, this truck would be a great no-frills option! Or, if you're looking for some great bones to begin a restoration with, or turn it into a restomod, it's also a great option.
