Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is proud to present this nasty 1965 Impala SS 2-door hardtop. For the 1965 model year, Chevrolet brought out a redesigned Impala, and it was very well received - this new design set an new industry annual sales record, with more than 1 million units sold in the United States. For 1965, all new full-size Chevrolets ditched the previous "X" frame design in favor of a full-width perimeter frame, and received new bodies that featured curved, frameless side glass (for pillarless models), sharper angled windshields with newly reshaped vent windows, and a redesigned full-coil suspension. The exterior of this big block bad boy is finished in a period correct GM Crocus Yellow (the trim tag shows that the factory color code was "C - K", which means it was initially delivered in Ermine White over Artesian Turquoise poly), while the interior is done in Ivory (color code 845, which matches the trim tag); so, although the exterior is a different color than it was when it first rolled off the line in St. Louis, the restored interior has kept the original color scheme.
There's a lot of cool stuff beneath the surface appearance of this potent Impala SS: for starters, the original engine was replaced by an awesome 427 CID V8 (which has the added benefit of FiTech Fuel Injection) and is backed by a smooth-shifting 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission (controlled by an HGM Comp-Shift II transmission controller) with a TransGo shift kit for quick gear changes. The heartbeat of the big 427 is its GM#7115 forged crank, a Comp Cams Extreme Energy 276HR roller camshaft, and its fully balanced reciprocating assembly. The oval port iron heads are equipped with 2.19" intake/1.88" exhaust valves, along with a roller-cam-friendly valvetrain, including Comp Cams Ultra-Pro Magnum roller rocker arms. Fuel/air mixing is courtesy of the FiTech fuel injection, and a polished Edelbrock Hi-Rise intake manifold. Ignition is handled by a PerTronix Flamethrower setup, featuring a billet distributor. Cooling is provided by a massive Ron Davis aluminum radiator with twin 12" electric fans, and exhaust is a full dual system, beginning with a set of Doug's Headers. A GM Performance serpentine accessory drive system was added under the hood (keeping things simple at the front of the engine), and a new Painless Wiring harness, complete with F5 dual fan controller, provides for a more reliable electrical system. This vintage muscle car also sports improved handling and braking, thanks to its hydraulically boosted power brake system, 2" drop spindles, GM B-body big block coil springs, KYB Gas-a-Just shocks, GM Performance cross-drilled 4-wheel disc brake package, and Circle Racing #105 billet aluminum wheels (18x8 front, 18x9.5 rear) that are wrapped with Cooper Zeon performance radials (P245/40R18 up front, P275/40R18 out back). With all these upgrades, it should be evident that this car was built with "regular usage" in mind, as opposed to becoming a trailer queen. Inside, occupants will enjoy the tunes provided by the Bluetooth-controlled sound system, and they will find the fresh Ivory interior to be inviting and comfortable. The synthetic leather looks like new, showing virtually no wear. The carpet is in great shape, and the weather stripping and window felts are fresh, so this car is ready for its next long-term owner - it's a "makes no excuses" muscle car that wants a new home; so, make that home be yours!
