Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is excited to offer this beautiful Pepper Green 1970 Pontiac GTO for sale. This is the real deal GTO, not a clone, and has all its PHS documentation. Originally an option package for the Pontiac Tempest in 1964 and 1965, the GTO became its own model from 1966-1971. The Pontiac GTO was named Motor Trend's car of the year in 1968, and the 1970 carried over many of the attributes that helped it win the award in 1968, along with some new updates. The PHS info on this car backs up the configuration as being true to its original build, except for the fact that it now has a performance-built T56 5-speed manual transmission (swapped original Muncie 4-speed out for a more highway friendly driving experience). Pop the hood, and you'll find its original 400 CID V8, topped by a Quadrajet 4BBL carb. The engine has been rebuilt to Ram Air III specs with a mild performance cam and the correct Ram Air exhaust manifolds. The extra potency in the 400, plus the extra gear in the trans make keeping this beast in its optimum spot on the powerband easy to do. Out back, an "interstate friendly" set of 3.23:1 gears in the 10-bolt Posi rear end handle getting the power down. A ceramic-coated 3-inch dual exhaust setup, with both an X-pipe crossover and electric cutouts (switch is in the console), replaced the original factory exhaust. These upgrades contribute to a great-sounding, good running combination, and give this Goat some extra giddy up that it didn't have when it was new! Combine the extra power that the upgraded mill has, with the 5-speed manual, AND the upgraded Wilwood disc brake setup (with 4 piston calipers at all 4 corners, along with a Baer Racing proportioning valve), and this GTO runs and drives like a GTO that Pontiac only dreamed about in 1970. This Goat's handling benefits even further from the addition of lowering springs (and the requisite spindles up front), upgraded Global West suspension components (tubular upper and lower control arms, polyurethane bushings all around), larger diameter Hotchkis sway bars (front and rear, urethane bushings), and fully adjustable QA1 shocks. Toss in a modern variable ratio power steering gearbox from a '92 Camaro, along with the sticky BF Goodrich g-force comp2 radials (P245/40ZR17 up front, P275/40ZR17 rear) on its extra-wide Year One Aluminum Alloy Rally II aluminum wheels (8" wide front, 9" wide out back), and this little Goat will make you want to find some twisty roads to carve. The interior of this GTO is just like the rest of the car, in that it is super clean. The dash is in great shape, as is the Saddle Morrokide (woven) synthetic leather seating, and the Saddle carpet also shows very well. While the center console doesn't have cup holders, there IS a custom walnut shift knob atop the T56's shifter! Additional features and options on this 1970 Pontiac GTO include: AM Radio, Aluminum Wheels, Automatic Convertible Top, Power Steering, Radial Tires, Seat Belts, Spare Tire and Jack, and Vinyl Interior.
