Gateway Classic Cars of Houston has a rare opportunity for you to purchase a family owned since new, 18,596 original mile, 1973 Lincoln Mark IV! This car is original down to the tires that haven’t been changed since it was new. The current owner is the 3rd in his family to obtain the car but the Grandfather was the original purchaser. Powering this personal luxury car is a brutish 460 CID (7.5L) Ford 385 V8 engine mated to the C6 3-speed automatic transmission which are original to the car. 1973 was the second year for the successor to the Mark III. It grew in size and weight from its predecessor and was designed with the Cadillac Eldorado rival in mind. It certainly competed very well. It shared a common chassis with the Ford Thunderbird and was given its own exterior design from the windows down, returning hidden headlights, a radiator-style grille and a continental spare tire trunk lid. All the Continental Mark IVs were assembled at the Wixom assembly plant in Wixom, Michigan alongside the standard Lincoln Continental and the Ford Thunderbird. This was certainly a heavy car, coming in at a heft 5,264lbs! It feels like the kind of car you could drive through a wall without noticing. 1973 saw a major redesign, necessitated by the addition of the 5mph bumpers; in various forms, the front body style would be seen on Continentals and Lincolns until 1989. The engine in the Mark IV was rated considerably lower in both hp and torque than the 460 CID V8 used in the previous generation, however, this is largely due to that fact that they changed how they rated hp. Nationwide companies were made to switch from SAE gross to SAE net hp. This was done to better reflect real world hp figures. The compression ratio was lowered to comply with emissions standards but in many cases it only lowered power by around 10%. The SAE net hp of this car was 212.1hp which pushed this big brute to 120mph and could reach 60 in 10.8 seconds. Considering the car weighs as much as a modern-day Tahoe this was impressive for the year! Inside you will find AM/FM radio, cassette stack, spare tire, cruise control, power brakes, power steering, power locks, jack, power windows, ABS, tilt wheel, leather interior and radial tires. Don’t miss this chance to own this one. Contact Gateway Classic Cars of Houston at (832) 243-6220 for more information on the car, financing information or to talk about purchasing.
