For sale in our Nashville showroom is a real gem of an import, this 1972 Toyota Celica. Beginning in the mid-sixties the American pony car took the world and certainly North America by storm. The Mustang and Camaro were showing the world that smaller sporty cars were not just acceptable in the US, but desired. More small cars were being produced by the big three each year with names like Demon, Vega, and Maverick. The Japanese manufacturers had to come up with an answer if they wanted to stay relevant in the small car market in the US. Toyota’s response was the Celica. Launched in 1970, this was the first Japanese import that was designed to accommodate a six-foot tall person comfortably and the car very clearly took styling ques from its American competition. This example of the 1972 Toyota Celica has had some massaging to make it even more menacing than in stock form. The first thing you may notice are the TRD or Toyota Racing Development fender flares. This allows for a wider wheel and tire combo to improve traction and handling, and beneath the flares you’ll find just that. Beneath the bonnet of this little import street terror is an 18R-G 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine pumping out over 150 hp sporting fresh dual weber carburetors and headers. Options on this ride include upgraded modern stereo hidden below dash, alloy wheels, performance radials, TRD fender flares, leather interior, and power brakes.
