This Cougar is finished in a beautiful base coat clear coat Meadowlark Yellow, with a cool Black Cloth Convert Top. The previous owner gave this car a frame on restoration. In addition to the new paint the trim, door handles, and the front end chrome are all new or restored. The interior is completely redone and is highlighted with a new windshield and all new weather strips and window seals. The rest of the interior is also new or redone including door panels, upholstery, carpet and console. The dash is in excellent shape and is accented by a new wood steering wheel and an upgraded retro stereo. The new convertible top is a rich black cloth with a two piece rear window. The engine compartment and the trunk are finished and detailed. The trunk contains a spare, a mat and a jack. The suspension has been upgraded as well. It includes power rack and pinion steering Tubular control arms and coil over shocks with disc brakes. The 351CI 4 bbl engine has been upgraded with MSD ignition, headers and an Edelbrock Carb. An Aluminum radiator keeps everything cool. This 1969 Cougar looks great, runs great and thanks to a custom front end with power rack and pinion steering, tubular control arms and coil overs with discbrakes it goes down the road and stops as great as it looks. Well, it does not get much more unique than this ‘71 Cougar. At first glance you may think, what is that? It is not your average looking ‘67 Cougar. This ‘71 cougar exudes a classy, sophisticated attitude. The Wembledon White adds to the upscale feel along with the white convertible top. The body of this beauty is in excellent shape and shows well with the bright chrome. Take a look at the interior and you’ll quickly notice this ‘71 Cougar is triple white. Talk about a clean looking car! The interior is comfortable yet sporty. Everything about the inside of this car screams relaxing, but the “T” handle 4-speed says otherwise. One look at the shifter and you will quickly realize you are in for a treat when you sit in the driver’s bucket seat. If the transmission did not reveal this is a “Muscle Car”, the 429 Cobra Jet Ram Air surely will. There were only three engine options available in 1971 with the 429 Cobra Jet four-barrel V8 being the biggest of them all. The matching numbers 429 Cobra Jet puts out a ground pounding 370 horse power and 450 pounds of torque. This Cougar gives you the best of both worlds – comfort and muscle! There were only 47 convertibles built with the 429CJ engine. This option makes the car extremely rare and a sound investment. How many of the 47 total produced still exist? Currently there are 94 ‘71 Cougar Cobra Jet’s accounted for and only 32 are convertibles. This very special car comes with a Marti Report so there’s no mistaking this car is what it claims to be. Gateway Classic Cars is proud to present this 1973 Mercury Cougar Convertible in Our Louisville Showroom. For 1971, the Cougar was restyled, weighed less, and had only a one-inch-longer wheelbase than its predecessors. The front end now featured four exposed headlights; the disappearing headlights were eliminated. The center grille piece was now larger, sharing its appearance with the 1971 Mercury Cyclone. The rear featured a semifastback with a "flying buttress" sail-panel. The convertible returned, as did the XR-7 and the GT package. Enough about history! This lovely example is equipped with 351 Cleveland V8. This cat is a factory equipped AC car, but please note the AC will need some minor attention as it is not blowing cold upon its arrival in showroom. The Metallic Blue looks to be a repaint, it is in nice shape and the color is very similar to the GM color of Marina Blue. The convertible top is white and really sets off the metallic paint. The interior has been done in a dark blue interior with white inserts. The Mercury Cougar underwent an extensive redesign this year, shifting away from the Torino/LTD II chassis towards the smaller Ford Fox platform, sharing a 108-inch wheelbase and body panels with the redesigned Thunderbird. In another change, only the Cougar XR7 personal luxury coupe was carried over from 1979, temporarily marking the discontinuation of a full range of Cougar body styles. This Cougar has a 5.0-liter V8 with a 4-speed automatic. The carburetor has been rebuilt. It is newly painted and has a beautiful shine. The landau roof that is a significant contrast to the white paint. The vinyl roof is in great shape. This interior is as you can find in 1980 with a red vinyl interior.
