The Triumph Spitfire was introduced at the London Motor Show in 1962. The Spitfire was designed as an open top or convertible roadster from the outset and thus the chassis is reinforced for additional ridgedity via structural components within the bodywork. In 1970, the Mark IV model brought comprehensive changes. The rear end was updated to resemble the Triumph Stag and 2000 models also designed by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. The 1.3L inline 4 powerplant was rated at a somewhat anemic 63hp. The owner of this 1970 MK IV had other ideas. His creation started by mating the original body to a 1973 Triumph Spitfire MK IV GT-6 frame, hood, brakes and front suspension. The GT-6 vent windows and heater have been added for improved ventilation in the cockpit. Rear suspension is the Roto-Flex system from a MK2 GT-6. The drivetrain features a Triumph TR-6 inline six engine, TR-6 four-speed manual overdrive transmission, triple Stromberg manifold, Triumph Tune valve cover and Crane ignition. No concerns keeping up with traffic here! The interior is nicely finished in leather with a wood dash, steering wheel and shift knob by C & G Woodcraft. This beauty is located at our Milwaukee showroom. You can view the Triumph Spitfire MK IV in greater detail including HD pictures and an HD video of it running and driving at Gatewayclassiccars.som.
