The Pontiac Firebird was introduced in 1967 and intended to compete with the Ford Mustang. The name “Firebird” actually dates back to several GM concept car designs from the 1950’s. The 1967 Firebird shared many styling cues with it’s cousin, the Chevrolet Camaro, although the Firebird’s bumpers were integrated into the design of the front end. Base models came equipped with a 230 ci inline-six engine although most buyers opted for one of three V8 options. The top of the line was a 400 cid monster shared with the Pontiac GTO and rated at 325 horsepower. This Black Cherry 1967 Pontiac Firebird features a replacement 400 V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The owner reports 3,000 miles since the rebuild. This total frame-off restoration features new 4-wheel disc brakes and new sheet metal floor and trunk lid. Cruise in style surrounded by a black leather interior and listen to the Retro Sound audio system. The entire build package is set off nicely by a set of Keystone custom wheels. This incredible 1967 Pontiac Firebird is located at our Milwaukee showroom. You can view this incredible vehicle in greater detail including HD pictures and an HD video of it running and driving at Gatewayclassiccars.com. Engine: 400Transmission: Turbo Hydromatic 400Mileage: 82,436 ( undocumented )
Gateway Classic Cars of Tampa is proud to offer this excellent 1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 Ram Air. This Formula 400 Firebird checks off all the necessary boxes to make this a worthy car for the first time “Muscle Car” purchaser looking to have fun, or the long-time collector looking to add to an existing collection. The first box to be checked off is “appearance”. How appealing does it look? At first glance, the Navajo Orange is an eye catcher and combines well with the beige bucket interior. The front end looks aggressive and sucks you in with dual snorkel functioning “Ram Air” hood. The sleek, bold styling of the car exudes a classy confident attitude. The second box is “performance”. This Firebird performs just as good as it looks. It boasts a 400 cubic inch numbers matching motor, along with a 4-barrel carburetor and “Ram Air” option. All you need to do is step on the gas to awaken the sleeping giant. Power is transferred from the engine through a Turbo Hydromatic 400 automatic transmission to a 10 bolt posi-traction rear end which now houses 3.42 gears. The third box is “value”. To some this may be the most important box. How do you determine value or forecast value in a car? There are several factors that affect this category: two of which are already checked off. Let’s think in the terms of supply and demand. In 1973, Pontiac only produced 4,622 Formula 400 cars. Many fell victim to the crusher or salvage yard. Some were torn apart and key authentic components were replaced with non-original parts. Others are parked in non-operating condition and rusted out in a field, barn, or garage. Very few of the 4,622 that were produced made it to 2018 with original equipment that were also kept in prestigious condition. Of the 4,622 Formula 400 vehicles, only 533 had the functioning “Ram Air” hood. Yes, this is one of the 533 born with that very special option. Another factor of determining value is, “can you prove the car is what it is?” Yes, with documentation, VIN, data plate, and number stampings, which this 73 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 Ram Air has. Lastly, with Camaro’s fetching top tier prices, the focus has turned to what the next “Muscle Car” to ignite is. Buying trends are already showing favorable promise to the second-generation Firebirds. When you take all of this into consideration, this car is a trustworthy investment. Most of all, you can hop in and enjoy cruising it while your investment appreciates. You can place a big check mark in this box! Options include (cold) Air Conditioning, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Tilt Wheel, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, Raised White Letter Radial Tires, Rally Wheels, and Posi Traction. For sale in our Dallas-Fort Worth showroom is this awesome 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. Presented in rare and surprising white with red interior and detailing, this Trans Am hits all the right buttons and is remarkably unique. Well equipped, it has the famous 6.6L V-8, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, Rally II wheels, air conditioning, and T-tops. The red interior is visually striking and has bucket seats, a center console and a Kenwood CD stereo system. One of the very few cars to back up its claim of being a high-performance vehicle. Trans Ams were quicker than most everything on the road and brought outlandish style to the streets that was everything but shy. A massive hood bird was tamed lightly by complementing stripes and lettering, a big shaker bulge protruded boldly through the center of the hood, the wheel well had flares, the front fenders had vents and the rear end boosted a dynamically bold spoiler wing. Finding one this clean and unique is indeed a discovery. To view this vehicle in greater detail including 100+ HD pictures and videos, visit our website at www.GatewayClassicCars.com. For sale in our St. Louis Showroom is a Chesterfield Brown 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Accenting the Chesterfield Brown exterior is the tan phoenix, or screaming chicken depending on who you talk to, and the Camel Tan vinyl interior. The paint was resprayed at some point and shines with pride. The vinyl interior is believed to be original, it has aged very well, showing little signs of wear and aging. Powering this 78’ Trans Am is a W72 6.6L 400 4BBL V8, which is believed to be the original engine it rolled off the assembly line with. The W72 400 V8 was more powerful than the standard L78 by at least 20 horserpower. The 3-speed automatic transmission is also believed to be original and shifts the power to the rear end beautifully. The 2nd generation of GM/Pontiac’s F-Body vehicles hosted an array of impressive body lines, eye-opening powertrain, and new options for over a decade (1970-1981), and this specific arrival is a shining example of why the 2nd generation held such a lengthy tenure. The odometer on this T/A reads 1,574, which has rolled over, and the actual mileage is believed to be 101,574. Options for this 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am include: Air Conditioning (inoperable), AM/FM Radio with CD Player, Cruise Control, Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Tilt Wheel, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, Radial Tires, and Rally Wheels. The second-generation Pontiac Firebird was produced between 1970 and 1981 and saw some radical changes in power during the EPA influenced decade. In 1971, the legendary 455cid engine first became available in the Trans Am model. Output from the 455HO was rated at 335hp. The option was discontinued after 1976 for Trans Am and Formula models and by 1979, the best-selling year ever for the Trans Am, the 6.6 (400cid) power plant was restricted to 220hp. The owner of this mean green 1979 Formula decided to set things right by sourcing a 1975 455cid motor mated to a TH400 automatic transmission and stock posi differential. The owner reports 2,000 miles since the rebuild that includes a high-flow water pump, 7qt oil pan, 850 quadra jet carb, new valves, guides & seals and pistons. Engine: 305 CID V8Transmission: AutomaticMileage: 16,602 ( actual )
Gateway Classic Cars of Chicago is proud to offer this beautiful 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Sporting a very healthy 305 cubic inch V8 fuel injected engine backed up to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, this mid-year muscle car gets good thump down low, and still returns good gas mileage up top. With some very unique options, this is already a rare bird. Pile on the fact that this Trans Am has only travelled 16,000 original miles, and it’s clear to see how special this Trans Am truly is. Among the unique options are a list of RPO codes that the true enthusiasts will drool to see: LB9, G80, G92, and GM3. This signifies a 5.0L Tune-Port Injected V8, and a limited slip “performance gear ratio” of 3.45:1 on a 9-bolt rear axle. While talking numbers is interesting for a while, the soul of the car really gets your heart racing. The Blaze Red paint looks showroom fresh and coordinates smoothly with the red and gray cloth interior. The red carpet shows no signs of sun fade, and the dash has no bubbling or splits, which is all too common on these cars. The glass is crystal clear all around, and the weather stripping seals tight against the doors and rear hatch. Fire up the 5.0l V8 and hear the thunder. Throw the shifter in drive and feel what its like to drive a near brand new 1985 Pontiac Firebird. Take twists and turns and straighten them right out with this smooth handling classic. This collector opportunity would be as fun to drive as it would be to see its value grow over time. Engine: 411 CID V8Transmission: AutomaticMileage: 59,610 ( undocumented )
For sale in our Chicago showroom is this incredibly powerful 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA Tribute. How powerful you ask? How’s 840 horsepower? With a 411 cubic inch small block Chevrolet V8 sending all those ponies through a 2-speed automatic Powerglide spinning the custom aluminum driveshaft into the Ford 9” fabricated rear end. The aluminum center section houses a set of 4.56 rear gears to get the 29.5/10.5-15 racing slicks spinning and rocket this GTA down the quarter-mile in the 9’s at 146mph! The build was done starting in 2001. While 840 horsepower is very impressive, getting all that power to the ground is ultimately what matters. The 10.5 in slicks help plenty, but the mini-tub 4-link suspension really keep everything level. Plenty of work was worked into all spots of the chassis including frame ties, front suspension limiting straps, coilovers, and the 4-link suspension. Wilwood brakes on all 4 corners bring this white lightning to a halt quickly and safely. The engine and transmission have both been refreshed with no passes since. The vehicle has a title, but it is not currently street-legal. With over 800 horsepower ready to slingshot you through the traps in the blink of an eye, this is one exhilarating machine. Options include: T-tops, Tilt Steering Wheel, Seat Belts, Kill Switch, Racing Wheels, Alloy Wheels, Posi-Traction Rear Axle, and Racing Slicks. For more information on this incredible 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA, contact our Chicago showroom at (708) 444-4488 or Chicago@GatewayClassicCars.com. Engine: 350 CID V8Transmission: 700R4Mileage: 6,112 ( undocumented )
Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to offer this special 1987 Pontiac Firebird TransAm. This black-over-silver TA has been customized with a bunch of custom upgrades. Starting with its 350 CID V8 GMPP crate engine that has been upgraded to 1990 L98 Corvette specifications, including reconditioned L98 aluminum heads (done by Dale Parker), complete with new heavy duty valve springs, new valves, and roller rockers. This mighty mouse is also enhanced with an L98 Corvette-spec roller cam, Edelbrock upgraded TPI system, ported upper and lower intakes, larger diameter throttle body, and new injectors. An SLP cold air intake system helps improve the volume of air fed to the motor, along with reducing its temperature, further enhancing the power output potential. A custom exhaust system sucks the spent gases out, and provides a nice rumble out back, as well. Helping get the power to the ground are a new 700R4 4-speed automatic trans, new aluminum driveshaft, and a set of 3.42:1 gears with PosiTrac differential. Not only has the drivetrain been substantially enhanced, but so has the rest of the car. It also has a Wilwood brake-bias proportioning valve, new front and rear springs, new gas shocks, new GPA "cross-lace" wheels, and 245/50-ZR16 BFG g-Force TA tires at all 4 corners. Inside, it has GTA-style door panels, leather seating surfaces, 10-way power adjustable front seats from a 2002 Trans Am, new console, new carpet, new headliner, new sunvisors, a new console, new inner rear quarter panel covers, new kick panels, and a locking cargo area cover and side storage. In addition, it has a complete electronic dash (a rare option for '87-'88 Firebirds) with digital fluorescent gages and warning system for open doors and lamps, plus electronic solenoid-operated controls for HVAC functions, and a 2002 steering column (to accommodate the steering wheel-mounted radio controls). The radio is a 2005 model year GM radio system with RDS, MP3, CD, AM-FM, and XM capabilities, and the speakers have been upgraded to Pioneer 4-way units. The rear view mirror is also a step up from what it came with, and has compass, temp, Homelink, map lights, and electro-photochromic capability (auto-dimming LCD mirror). Even the paint has been refreshed on this beauty - the black over silver color scheme was redone by Kelly's Paint and Body Shop, and all tape appliques and emblems are correct for the year model, including the large hood "Bird" decal, which was available on 1986 1/2 and 1987 Trans Ams. Additonal options available on this unique, custom 1987 Firebird Trans Am include Air Conditioning (complete with a new AC compressor), Aluminum Wheels, AM/FM/XM/CD/Cassette, Cruise Control, Electric Mirrors, Keyless Entry, Leather Seating, Lumbar Supported-Power seats (front), Power Brakes, Power Locks, Power Steering, Power Windows, Posi-Trac, Radial Tires, Seat Belts, T-Tops, and Tilt Wheel. Engine: 6.0L LQ4 V8Transmission: 4 Speed AutomaticMileage: 82,688 ( actual )
If there is one thing most Trans Am admirers can agree upon, it is the disappointing output of the third generation’s 305 and 350 TBI/TPI motors. However, our newest arrival here at the Dallas Gateway Classic Car showroom has rectified this common complaint. This beautiful example of a 1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA will not only have you floored in the visual department, but will exceed your performance expectations as well. A complete powertrain swap to a LQ4 6.0 V8 and 4L80E transmission from the boat-anchored 350 TPI she came with was performed by Larry’s Speed & Custom of Fort Worth approximately 3000 miles ago. No expense was spared in completing this build, and all necessary swap components were employed. Custom wiring harness, Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, Walboro 255 LPH fuel pump, Holley EFI fuel rails paired with an LS1 intake, billet coil brackets, LSSimple alternator kit, BMR adjustable torque arm, and BRP headers with muffler delete. Hawks motor mounts and a Blackheart transmission crossmember keep the new powertrain properly supported while you dust Vette-after-Vette. New calipers hugging drilled and slotted rotors insure a positive and pulse-free stop. Additionally, the interior was upgraded to a custom, yet tastefully-upgraded upholstery. The body of this GTA has only 82,688 miles, so this bird’s skeleton was a great candidate for this impressive and popular swap. For more HD pictures and video, visit www.gatewayclassiccars.com. Engine: 3.8L V6 FTransmission: 5 Speed Automatic Mileage: 9,122 ( actual )
Gateway Classic Cars of Tampa is honored to have this 1989 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo 20th Anniversary. Number 848 of only 1550 made and one of the 150 Indy 500 Pace Cars for the race…. Pontiac sure got it right with this version of the Trans Am. With a unique Turbocharged 3.8 Liter V6 under the hood, this Brid was the best performing since the 455 Super Duties. Pontiac under rated these boosted T/As at 250 HP and 345 lb ft of torque. These super sixes could get to 60mhp in 4.6 seconds and though the ¼ mile in 13.4 seconds. There’s no surprise this Trans Am has no problem pacing the 1989 Indianapolis 500. It is rumored that this was the first pace car that didn’t need any performance modifications to keep up. They simply installed a light bar and the communication equipment and sent it out on the track. This example is a well-maintained beauty with only a little over 9000 miles. Sounding great with the stainless-steel exhaust makes for a fun driving experience. The vehicle drives as tightly as you’d expect for such a low mileage vehicle. The white paint is in great shape as well as the camel leather interior. It sports the classic gold diamond spoke wheels which were the style for the period. This modern classic is a collectible as well as a great driver car. The performance is great, the rush of the turbo is exhilarating, and the modern driving technology makes this car very desirable. You can see this collectible 1989 Pontiac trans Am Turbo 20th Anniversary Pace Car edition in greater detail in our Tampa Florida showroom or at www.gatewayclassicars.com. Please contact 813-645-6200 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
