The body is an all new Real Deal Steel product, the engine is a GMPP Crate LS3 V8, and the frame and suspension came from Detroit Speed. With options like automatic headlights (which open on their own when they sense darkness), backup camera, and paddle shifters, this Camaro has the best of both worlds, old school looks and new school technology. As mentioned before, powering this incredible build is a GM Crate LS3 V8 engine that produces an awe inspiring 525 horsepower. Transferring the power to the Ford 9” rear end is a 4L85E automatic transmission that features paddle shifters mounted at the steering wheel. Giant disc brakes and coil-over shocks adorn all four corners, paired with front and rear suspension goodies including sway bars and A arms, this Camaro drives like a new car! The black Dupont paint, color code Black 99, looks fantastic on this professionally built Camaro. Black is not an easy color to spray, and this one is beautiful. The full custom interior represents black vinyl upholstery with cloth inserts in the seats and down the center of the dash. The center console houses additional gauges, a B&M Quick Silver shifter, 2 cup holders up front, an arm rest/storage compartment, and extends to the backseat area offering 2 more cup holders in the rear. For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. This is without question one absolutely gorgeous '69 Camaro! There isn't much that wasn't customized, and it shows. It’s easy to throw a ton of aftermarket parts on a car. This took some serious time and attention to detail. Let’s start with the obvious first. Painted in a beautiful shade of red with white stripes or a gorgeous white leather interior and riding on a set of custom Billet Specialties aluminum wheels. This isn't just a nice paint job though. The front bumper is a narrowed and reshaped 1969 Camaro bumper mounted with custom brackets. The lower valance has a lower grill opening with a stainless steel grill, the upper grill opening has been smoothed and features driving lights/ turn signals from a ’69 Camaro. The lower air dam and fender extensions are a one off from molded fiberglass. The upper grill opening is smoothed and recessed to accommodate quad headlights from a 1970 Oldsmobile and a hand fabricated stainless grill with a relocated hood release. The hood features a steel cowl induction that was welded from underneath and smoothed all around. The front fenders have lower extensions molded ahead and behind the wheel opening and smoothed. All the inner front panels and support systems were smoothed, relocated and painted to match the body. The doors were also smoothed and utilize 2003 GM latch and handle systems for a clean appearance. The side rocker panels were extended the full length to give an even and finished look to the bottom edges. The rear quarters, you guessed it, smoothed with the rear side lights removed and the ends of the rear spoiler molded in place. The rear decklid is similar and features an original spoiler that was reshaped and molded in place. The rear body panel has reversed tail lamps fabricated from a ’69 Camaro and a welded in pop up gas cap. The rear bumper is also a 1969 unit that has been trimmed to fit. All the painted surfaces are PPG base coat clear coat Super Red with Silver Pearl. Once you raise the hood, you’ll see another cowl induction unit that is functional and removable. Lurking beneath this work of art is a very well built 468 Big Block that balanced and blue printed utilizing a solid roller camshaft and 10.5:1 compression. Other notable engine details include aluminum small chamber rectangular port cylinder heads with 2.19 intake and 1.88 exhaust valves, .620 lift camshaft, single plane intake manifold topped by a 830 CFM carburetor and aluminum accessories and pullies. Big blocks have a reputation for running hot, that can be easily addressed and was with this build thanks to a HD aluminum radiator and dual electric fans set up to cool 650 horsepower. The music this engine makes is the result of ceramic coated headers flowing through a set of custom stainless steel pipes and mufflers. Transferring this beautiful power plant to the ground is a 2005 Dodge Viper 6-speed, heavy duty clutch converted to hydraulic actuation and finally to a 12 bolt rear end housing a set of 4.10 posi traction gears. Slowing things down is a breeze thanks to four wheel disc brakes. Even though this car is presumed to strictly be a show car, it will do what you ask of it. The suspension and chassis were not missed. The front suspension has been heavily modified and includes shaved side rails and cross member, new tubular control arms, coil over shocks, a quick ratio steering box, heavy duty sway bar and dropped spindles for the aggressive ride height. All parts are painted in a gloss red and silver urethane finish. The underside has all new floors, unibody subframe connectors and additional braces for a more rigid chassis. The rear suspension and undercarriage are also heavily modified. Wheel tubs moved inboard two inches, shocks relocated, springs lowered and moved inboard, traction bars installed, new bearings and seals. Other modifications include a new fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, relocated battery(trunk), stainless steal lines and fasteners throughout. Altered oil pan, steering linkage, transmission mount and tunnel. The last area to cover and one of our favorites, the interior. The all white interior is very easy on the eyes and just feels fresh. The guys over at Recovery Room Hot Rod interiors did an amazing job. Hats off to these guys! Custom is the theme here as is the rest of the build. Custom white leather on most surfaces, new easy to read instruments for the custom dash, a tilt steering column, Sony CD player, custom rear deck with speakers, hand brake replacing the old foot actuated parking brake, custom center console that houses power windows switches, electronic fuel pump switch and the battery cut off. A 6-speed manual transmission is mated to LS3 and provides an excellent feel while shifting through the gears. A 10-bolt Posi-Trac rear end with 3.55 gears puts the power to the pavement via the 275 radial tires. The front suspension has been upgraded with tubular upper A-arms and a sway bay. Kore disc brakes adorn all four corners with a Wilwood master cylinder under the hood combining for excellent braking performance. The body and paint were restored in the late 90’s and still shine like new. The green exterior features a white pinstripe down the side, which blends with the white convertible top beautifully. The interior is all green, from the dash to the seats to the carpet. The 454 was bored to a 496 rated at 650-hp, 675-Lbs torque, with just 4,500-miles since being shoe-horned into the engine bay. Attention was taken for the cooling and look of this beast, by the addition of a Be Cool aluminum radiator, with dual fans, powder coating on core support as well as fender wells, and Billet Specialties True Track serpentine belt system. Power is transferred to a Magnum T-56 6-speed manual transmission, and on to a Moser True Track 9” rear end with 411 gears. Now for sale at Gateway Classic Cars is this beautiful unrestored 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 L-89! This is a number matching car with only 40,935 documented miles, with the rare aluminum heads. The authenticity and miles are sworn and notarized by the original owner. The car was purchased brand new at Herb Hallman Chevrolet in Reno. Equipment on this car include the Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, 12 bolt rear end, 4:20 gears, air injection reactor (smog), Delco AM radio, center console, black vinyl interior, front and rear spoilers, Rallye wheels and redline tires. Finished in the original color “Corvette Bronze” (code 0-0), offered only in 1968. This is the punchy 375hp L89 engine! This rating was extremely conservative, since it was the same motor that made 425 HP in1965 without any changes. While the L89 option didn't bring any more horsepower, it did offer a weight savings of at least 50 pounds. The aluminum heads were exact copies of the high-performance rectangular port heads that the L78s and L72s came equipped with. With some simple carb tuning, tubular exhaust headers and a re-curve on the distributor, these cars could be running mid 13s easily. Because of the high-revving nature of the solid-lifter big-blocks, you couldn't order power steering or air conditioning with any of these engines. This is a very rare car and in original factory condition. The base price of the car back in the day was $2,694 but with these extensive options it totaled $4,172.50. With inflation that equates to about $30,000 in today’s money. Not a lot really when you consider our top of the line Camaro these days is more than double that. First, some history of the Z10, as excerpted from Chapter 12 of "The 1969 Camaro Reference Book" by John R. Hooper. PACE CAR HARDTOP - THE Z10 COUPE "Since 1969, the controversy over a Pace Car hardtop has existed. For many years, hobbyists and other so-called experts had different opinions on the existence of these cars. Finally, after many years the truth has come out. Yes, the Z10 Camaro does exist. It is thanks to the many Camaro clubs and enthusiasts whose efforts have brought the facts about these cars to light. The basic Z10 package has Rally Sport and Super Sport equipment, code 50-50 paint, cowl induction hood, and 396 or 350 cubic inch V8 engine. The transmission combinations from the automatic to the four-speeds were the same as the Pace Car convertibles. Most of the Z10 cars had factory air conditioning. Any option that was available for the Z11 Pace Car convertible was also available on the Z10. Different interiors used on the hardtop version consisted of 711 black standard, 712 black custom, 713 black houndstooth, 727 ivory standard, and 729 ivory houndstooth. It is rumored that interior 720 orange houndstooth could also be ordered. Some of the options used were rosewood steering wheel, tilt steering column, fold down rear seat, a factory 3-speed transmission with console on the floor, vinyl roof cover, among others. The Z10 cars were a Southwestern Regional promotional car offered to a small number of dealerships in the Southwestern Branch Zone Office during Indy race time. We know now that they were available in Texas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Arizona, and possibly other states. We may never know exactly how many were built, however we believe it to be between 200 and 300 built at Norwood. There were no records kept at Chevrolet Motor Division's offices. Since this was a one-time promotion, the customer did not have a chance to order the car but had to buy it off the dealer's lot. The Z10's appear to have been built between 04C (third week of April) to 05A (first of May) -- possibly longer...While these cars do not compare in rarity with COPO or ZL-1 cars, they still hold a place 1969 Camaro history." Now - about the one we have: like all Z10 Camaros, it is wearing a glistening coat of Dover white, with contrasting Hugger Orange stripes. This one shows a date code of 05A, designating a build date of the 1st week of May, 1969. Under the hood is a 350 CID V8 (300HP), one of the two available engine options for the Z10. The mighty mouse is mated to a smooth shifting Muncie 4 speed manual, which sends the twist to the 12 bolt rear end. Twist the ignition key, and it fires right up into a nice rich burble, sound aided by the addition of some Hooker Competition headers that funnel the exhaust into a well-executed dual exhaust with FloMaster mufflers. Ease it into first, and mash the gas, and you'll remember why you loved these cars so much! While you're cruising, flick on the A/C to keep cool - the system has been upgraded with a new R134 compressor, so it's easily serviceable by any shop. When it's time to get the speed down from the quickly-reached triple digit territory, the front discs are up to the task. Inside, you'll see that the rich black interior looks almost new, with its synthetic leather seating and carpet virtually devoid of any signes of use. The addition of an Autogage cluster by AutoMeter helps the driver keep tabs on critical operating conditions, and the Sunpro Supertach II tach aids in hitting those shift points. This stunning Camaro was built in the Norwood, Ohio plant during the first week of June and comes wearing the classic Cortez Silver paint. The Camaro was introduced in 1967 to attack the Ford Mustang success. The first-generation lasted until this 1969 model year when it again paced the Indianapolis 500. For 1969, the Camaro had all-new sheet metal except the hood and trunk lid giving the car a substantially sportier look. The grille was redesigned with the heavy “V” cant and deeply inset headlights. New door skins, rear quarter panels, and rear valance panel also gave the car a much lower, wider and more aggressive look. The wheel wells were flattened with sculpted feature lines flowing off towards the rear of the car and rear-slanting simulated air slots ahead of the rear wheel. The front had a full width chrome bumper integrated with the body color grille surround and round parking lights positioned on either side of the license plate. This gorgeous red exterior and black vinyl interior Z28 was frame off restored approximately 15 years ago at approximately 49,000 original miles. The current owner has put the remainder of the miles (it currently shows 49,576 miles) on the vehicle in the last 5 years. With a 302 cubic inch V8 coupled to a 4 speed manual transmission feeding a 12 bolt 4:11 Positraction rear, and Rally wheels wrapped in radials, the power brakes and power steering complete the factory configuration. This vehicle is documented by the NCRS and shows that the official production date was 04/05/1968. The original delivery dealer was dealer code 242 in zone 49. The name and address of that dealer is believed to be Hornbeck Chevrolet Inc in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. The Z28 performance package was designed (with further modifications) to compete in the SCCA Trans-Am series. It included a solid-lifter 302 V8, 4-speed transmission, power disc brakes, and two wide stripes down the hood and trunk lid. The Z28 option code was introduced in December 1966 for the 1967 model year. It was the brainchild of Vince Piggins, who conceived offering "virtually race-ready" Camaros for sale from any Chevrolet dealer. This option package was not mentioned in any sales literature, so it was unknown to most buyers. The Z28 option required power front disc brakes and a close-ratio Muncie 4-speed manual transmission (posi-traction was optional). It featured a 302 cu in (4.9 L) small-block V-8 engine, 3" stroke crankshaft with 4" bore, an aluminum intake manifold, and a 4-barrel vacuum secondary Holley carburetor of 780 cfm. The engine was designed specifically to race in the Trans Am series (which required engines smaller than 305 cu in (5.0 L). Advertised power of this engine was listed at 290 hp (216 kW). This is an under-rated figure. Chevrolet wanted to keep the horsepower rating at less than 1 hp per cubic inch, for various reasons (e.g. insurance and racing classes). The factory rating of 290 hp occurred at 5300 rpm, while actual peak for the high-revving 302 was closer to 360 hp (268 kW) (with the single four barrel carb) and 400 hp (298 kW) (with optional dual-four barrel carbs) at 6800-7000 rpm. The Z28 also came with upgraded suspension, racing stripes on the hood and trunk lid, '302' front fender emblems on the 67 and early 68 cars, and 'Z28' emblems in late 68 & 69. It was also possible to combine the Z28 package with the RS package. Only 602 Z28s were sold in 1967, along with approximately 100 Indianapolis Pace Car replicas. 7,199 Z28s were sold in 1968. The 1967 and 1968 Z28s did not have the cowl induction hood, optional on the 1969 Z28s. The 1967 Z28 received air from an open element air cleaner or from an optional cowl plenum duct attached to the side of the air cleaner that ran to the firewall and got air from the cowl vents. 15-inch rally wheels were included with Z28s while all other 1967-9 Camaros had 14-inch wheels. The origin of the Z28 nameplate came from the RPO codes - RPO Z28 was the code for the Special Performance Package. RPO Z27 was for the Super Sport package. Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this true 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/Z28. In 66 the SCCA started a new series of racing aimed at the new emerging market of the Pony cars. Ford had their Mustangs hopped up by Carroll Shelby and pretty much dominated the series. It would be a different story in 67 with the release of Chevy's Camaro. In order to play by the Trans Am rules Chevy had designed a completely new motor, the 302. A high revving small block that had plenty of horsepower it would turn out to be one of the most iconic engines to ever come out of GM. Due to these high RPM's the motors were prone to blowing up. Unlike today rev limiters were not around so a missed shift could spell disaster. This Z/28 has had an amazing life. Owned by only 3 people the car is very original. As with many of these the block, crank, and pistons were all replaced under warranty. The original owner sold the car shortly thereafter to the second owner who in 1979 took the car a part to begin a restoration. Life happened and the car sat until 2014 when the current owner purchased the car He went through the car completely from freshening up the heads while giving it a valve job right down to fixing all and any rust issues. Painted back to its original green with white racing stripes it is factory correct. During the process all bright work was polished out back to its original luster. New OEM emblems were placed on the car getting back to factory. All of the glass is original but all of the rubber seals were no good so a whole set was ordered and installed making this Camaro seal up nicely. The motor was pulled and taken apart with the heads shipped off to Dixon racing. They placed new valve springs, seals, and one intake valve making them good as new. The block was cleaned and checked for wear while the crank was polished. New bearings, cam and rods were all installed with a new set of rings making this a complete rebuild. The double roller timing chain and oil pump were both replaced just for good measure. The clutch wasn't quite up to par so a whole new assembly was installed. The original Muncie Close Ratio 4 speed was all checked out while the 12 bolt posi rear end completes this drive train. The interior is all original to this car and shows excellent with no major signs of wear it is hard to believe it's almost 50 years old. Courtesy of the RS option are the iconic hideaway headlights that actually work. The whole system was replaced and is now in excellent working condition. With the pony wars back in full force the original Trans am racers are going for huge money. Though this one has a factory replaced block everything else is correct on the car and with this one being Z/28 RS car the value is sure to do nothing but increase. The 1969 Camaro marked the last of the first generations and is arguably the most popular. It featured entirely new, more aggressive looking sheet metal and revised grille. Going away was the coke bottle shape, making room for a flatter, wider looking stance. The Camaro was available in many different configurations, from a standard Sport Coupe, a rubber melting Super Sport, or a track-ready Z/28. The SS was "The One with a Name Like the Hiss of a Snake." Big power, special 3-speed transmission, sport striping, heavy insulated hood. Hiding under the stock SS hood on this Hugger Orange beauty is a beast of a V8! Where a salty 350 once sat now resides a 434 cubic inch Nye’s racing engine with all forged internals, solid roller comp cam #12-990-9. Topping off the power house is a set of AFR eliminator 220 cylinder heads that help bump the compression ratio to 13.1:1. Providing the spark needed is a DUI distributor that has been built specifically for this engine setup. No expense was spared on any aspect of the restoration of this car! Transferring the power to the rear of the car is the same 3-speed automatic that came in the car from the factory but the only part that hasn’t been upgraded is the exterior case of the transmission. The body and paint are excellent with an impressive panel fit. Making it truly a car that needs to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. The black interior was definitely not overlooked during the restoration. When you are lucky enough sit behind the steering wheel you will notice the factory console gauges have been replaced with upgraded aftermarket gauges. The main reason for the upgrade is to have better accuracy while monitoring the vitals of the car. Helping get the power to the ground is the 12 bolt rear-end that houses a set of 4.10 gears. At all four corners there are Ralley wheels with new trim rings wrapped in BFGoodrich radial tires. And last but not least this car comes with ALL of the original parts that have been upgraded or replaced during the restoration. This includes but is not limited to the numbers matching 350 V8, Air Conditioning setup, power steering as well as the 3.31 gears that were replaced wit the 4.10s. With a 302 rated at 290 horsepower and an option of 4-speed manual transmissions, lots of racing, both legal and otherwise, has been done in these machines over the years. This example is an all original 1969 Camaro Z28 with only 34990 actual miles on the odometer. Typically, it is common that these street legal racecars original “DZ” coded engines are damaged and get replaced with 302 CID engine rebuilt to factory specifications. In this case the original engine has survived and makes this Camaro that much desirable. The M21 4-speed is original to the vehicle, as well as the 3.73 12-bolt rear axle. The standard midnight green buckets are in fantastic shape and show minimal wear. The Trans-Am battles for which the Z/28 cars were built need no introduction, but the cars themselves remain somewhat unique in the world of collectable automobiles. Not quite race cars, but equipped with some serious performance hardware. The Z/28 option was a popular option in 1969 due perhaps to the fact of the race-ready hardware. Finding an intact Z/28 that hasn't been abused and thrashed is an exceptionally difficult task. This one is most certainly as nice as they come and has been authenticated by Larry Christensen as a true RS Z28 car. During the meticulous nut and bolt restoration, this Camaro was resprayed in a gorgeous Hugger Orange that fits this car very well. While this car is exceptional in every way, it is the little items that will escape your notice and make it truly remarkable. For example the original trim tag has never been removed from the body adding to the authenticity of this rare piece of American history. In short, this car is as close to the way the factory made it as possible. Of course, at this level, things like the chrome and stainless have been professionally refinished. Badges and emblems, including the Z/28 badges on the front fenders and the '302' badges on either side of the cowl induction hood, are either exact duplicates of the originals, or perfectly preserved NOS items. The Rally Sport Package being added brings along the concealed headlights, special grille, wheel opening moldings and bright exterior accents. Under the hood sits the DZ 302 cubic inch V8 that is the basis for this car being such a sought-after piece of classic car history. The engine has been rebuilt to stock specifications and remains in show condition today. The paint on the block and heads is crisp and clean, the satin black air cleaner wears the correct decals, and the spark plug wires are accurate reproductions. Even the unique exhaust manifolds look like they've just popped out of the molds and show no signs of heat cycling or corrosion. Looking underneath this beauty, the chassis tells the same story of attention to detail. Transferring the power to the 12-bolt posi-traction rear end is a Muncie M-22 close ratio 4-Speed manual transmission that not only shifts great but really makes you feel one with this machine while you are behind the wheel. If you are lucky enough to sit in the interior of this Camaro you will appreciate the fit and feel of the like new hounds tooth interior. Helping this car sounds like it should is the chambered exhaust system that has a very tame idle but when you roll on the accelerator pedal it lets others know you mean business. Wheels are, of course, the timeless 15-inch Chevy Rallyes with correct Goodyear Wide Tread GT bias-ply tires.
