For sale in our Chicago showroom is this survivor 1975 Chevrolet Vega Cosworth. With 3,508 made total, and only 2,061 made in ’75, these are few and far between. All ’75 models were covered in the same black lacquer paint with gold accents. They also received the “race-inspired” 2.0L DOHC inline 4 cylinder engine connected to a responsive 4-speed manual transmission and a steep 3.73 gear ratio making for a sporty feel. As this was designed to be a racecar for the street, power steering and power brakes are not present to save weight, but clocking in at under 2,800lbs, you would never think to need them. Adding to the weight savings is the all aluminum engine tricked out with all the goodies like fuel injection, forged aluminum pistons, and a forged steel crankshaft and rods. These are extremely overbuilt engines.
This lovely example has traveled just past 44,000 miles, and it’s hard to imagine even that much. The paint still shines with great vibrancy, the interior shows no fading, and the engine is as eager as ever to fire up and spin all the way to its 6500rpm redline. The shifter is very easy to locate gears with, and all the gauges are clean and in plain sight. This, #1592, is a collectors dream; low enough mileage to surely increase in value, but not so low that you would feel wasteful enjoying it on the road. Many magazines touted the Cosworth as the best in its class for ’75 and ’76 by beating the likes of Alfa, BMW and Saab.
The Vega Cosworth has a racing pedigree, plenty of positive magazine articles, and low mileage. This is what collector cars are made of! Options include: Aluminum Wheels, AM Radio, Seat Belts, Radial Tires, and a Vinyl Interior.
