Our Atlanta Showroom is proud have this 1940 Buick Special Coupe for sale. The Buick Straight-8 engine (Fireball 8) was produced from 1931 to 1953 and sold in Buick automobiles, replacing the Buick Straight-6 engine across the board in all models in 1931. Like many American automobile makers, Buick adopted the straight-8 engine in 1931 as a more powerful alternative to the previous engines. However, unlike most other car makers at the time, Buick had been using a valve-in-head/OHV overhead valve design or I-head since its inception and continued this practice in their inline-8 designs. When introduced in 1940 the new Series 50 Super featured the cutting-edge "torpedo" C-body. When combined with a column mounted shift lever the cars offered true six passenger comfort, changes that had clearly been influenced by the Cadillac Sixty Special. The basic formula for the 1940 to 1952 Super was established by mating the Roadmaster's longer behind the engine cowl body to the Series 40 Special's smaller straight-eight engine (and consequently shorter engine compartment). This led to an economical combination of voluminous passenger room and relatively good fuel economy. This 2 door model had a frame off restoration about 10 years ago. The car was completely disassembled stripped and repainted. The owner laid down 12k to paint this time capsule and put in all new rubber, glass, chrome wheels, new interior with high quality leather, and all new brakes. There was over $50,000 invested in the restoration. The Buick starts, runs, drives, and stops like it should.
