Gateway Classic Cars of Philadelphia welcomes this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS to our showroom located in West Deptford, NJ! The muscle car era at Chevrolet truly saw its peak in 1970 with the Chevelle SS. Gone were the days of linear styling now surpassed by a smoother, coke bottle design. Sharing sheet metal with the revered Buick GSX, they share the exact same roofline; seriously check it out sometime! This Chevelle, is not a 396 clone, it is a true SS 454 factory car that has had an engine swap. Pop open the hood and look at the LS 5 454 Big Block V8 that is as close to OE as possible. 1 of 4,298, it is a Z15 option car which cost $503.45 back in the day and magically shifted a Malibu into the mean machine that stands before you. Included in the package were heavy duty suspension, power brakes, dual exhaust and a black grill. The car is a total frame off restoration painstakingly returned to OE standards. The chassis and undercarriage are painted “east wood chassis black” and has been primed with a rust preventative. Take note of the Cowl Induction sport striped hood that gulped cold air straight to the carb, a $147.45 option. While you’re taking in the whole package, you surely noted the unique Misty Turquoise paint that graces this beauty. coupled to a new M-21 four-speed transmission and sends those horses to the 12 bolt POSI rear end! Ceramic coated Hedman Headers deliver exhaust to the 2 ½” stainless exhaust that flow along the complete Hotchkis ® undercarriage and suspension. Take a seat in one of the black buckets and admire the dark interior. A center console holds the Hurst Shifter and pairs well with the flat-faced instrument panel that holds factory gauges including a 7000 RPM tachometer! It’s all there, you just need to act on it! As a Super Stock report once claimed, “Driving a Chevelle is like being the guy who’s in charge of triggering atom bomb tests. You have the power, you know you have the power and you know if you use the power, bad things may happen. Things like arrest, prosecution, loss of license, broken pieces, shredded tires….” So, why not act on your instinct? Dare to be different and take home a piece of American muscle car history.
